I was just recently diagnosed with Meniere's Disease.

I believe that I had my first two vertigo attacks when I was twenty one years old; one of these attacks landed me in the hospital. I had extreme spinning, nausea, sweating, and ear/head fullness; and I could not stand up straight without assistance. I believe that the ER nurse told me that I was likely suffering from vertigo, but he/she never mentioned the possibility of Meniere's disease.

Over the following ten years, I had occasional vertigo spells and tinnitus. For the most part, these attacks occurred every few years and did not cause me much of an issue.

All of this changed last year. In the summer, I began to experience multiple gastrointestional issues and saw a gastroenterologist/nutritionist. In the fall, I was diagnosed with SIBO, fructose intolerance, and gluten/dairy sensitivity; the nutritionist believed that I was suffering from "leaky gut" as well. The gluten sensitivity was by far the worst. After eating gluten, I became incredibly incoherent, wiped out, and nauseous; I began to experience issues with memory as well. By the end of the year, I was forced to eliminate gluten and dairy from my diet.

Also, beginning in the fall, I began to have more frequent migraine headaches. And the vertigo came back. I began to have an attack about twice per month. With each attack, I had head/ear fullness and occasionally nausea. Also, I had either vertigo or some other form of dizziness (feeling like I was floating or feeling like I was on a boat). And, before, during, or after each attack, I experienced tinnitus and/or other hearing abnormalities (sensitivity to sound and hearing an echo).

Because these attacks began to further increase in intensity and frequency about six weeks ago, I began to see an ENT doctor. In discussing Meniere's with me, the doctor mentioned a connection between gluten sensitivity and Meniere's disease. Has any one else experienced a connection between gluten sensitivity/intolerance and Meniere's symptoms?

Have you studied Migraine Associated Vertigo? The book Heal Your Headache is often recommended here. I believe there is some overlap with Menieres. I also think anything that takes stress off the immune system will help Menieres. Good luck!

I agree with June, reduced inflammation should help in any case. I don't think I have ever felt better than the 30 days I was on the Whole 30 diet. It is basically meat, potatoes, veggies, and fruit period. Get rid of those inflammation foods and it has to help. Not sure, but help.
