So I’ve been doing really well lately. Haven’t had vertigo since last September and other than tinnitus and near contstant pressure, I’ve been feeling pretty good. Since yesterday I’ve been feeling awful. The pressure is off the charts, my hyperaccusis (which has been under control with hear aids) is terrible and I’ve been off balance for two days. I’m still on JOH, antivirals and low sodium. I also get allergy shots and take an antifungal med. I lost my job a couple of weeks ago, so I know my stress is bad, but could it just now be reacting to that? It’s been super hot and muggy, but again, that’s been the case for a month. I’ve changed nothing and am at a loss as to what to try??? Suggestions?
I think all the things you mention contribute to flareups and it seems they all landed on you at once. Add to it that this is an episodic sort of disorder. I know it is not as definitive ans we all would like but i think it is worth your while to do everything you can to take the stress off and stay positive. The weather/air pressure etc was always a big thing for me too and so was caffeine in case that could be involved. Good luck. Let us know how it goes.
Thanks June. I did also have Chinese food and a glass of wine on Tuesday and all this started on Wednesday. It’s just so frustrating after feeling pretty good for so long!
I try to avoid eating out because I understand most restaurants use MSG to make everything taste better. I drink no alcohol and rarely drink coffee. I do drink tea mostly spearmint tea from plants I grow. I being trying for years to decrease my stress with prayer, meditation, fresh air and exercise. Knitting helps me so I think hobbies are imperative to balance life stress with fun. I lost my job in January of 2017 and still get stressed. I tied a lot of my self esteem to my job but don't miss the stress. At times I think I'll go back to my life coach.
Dwaynehoover - I take Famvir (Macleod’s) brand, 500mg once a day for maintenance. Since I just lost my job, I don’t want to up the dose because it was $300 a month without insurance and I don’t want to run out early and have to pay that before I get another job!
Almost all restaurant food is ridiculously high in sodium. If you check the menus even for things you think are healthy choices you will be astounded. So, if sodium is a factor for you, that could be part of it.
Pharmacies charge a wide crazy array of prices. You are paying wayyyyyyyy too much. Call around to mom and pop pharmacies only. Can try to get Northstar Famcic for $1 per pill or whatever brand you like. Thats what I pay. Tell the pharmacy you refill very often and need a good price. I called some places wanted $3-$5 per pill for the same exact brand-Northstar. They will rob you if you let them.
I know this is a wild suggestion but check out the thread on Middle ear dysfunction due to the 2 small muscles in the middle ear going into spasm. Botox has helped me as has massaging the muscles in the front of the neck. So many of us had stress as the trigger which started everything off.It makes a lot of sense to me. Regardless I hope this passes soon.
Sounds cool to me, who gave you this idea? You are a pioneer! You took great initiative. Who administers the botox? Do you direct them where to apply or they have a protocol?
Thanks for all of the suggestions! Seriously! I have terrible TMJ, so maybe BOTOX would help to stop me grinding my teeth and clenching my jaw. I not have a few psoriasis spots that have shown up along with a canker sore (all stress induced I'm sure). I'll have to look into a neurologist about BOTOX once I get insurance again and I'll definitely call around for cheaper Famvir options. Walgreens said it was $900 for a 90 day supply which is freaking $10 a pill!!!! I've been feeling a little better - everything is still off, but the dizziness has let up a bit, so I'm thrilled about that! Its just frustrating when you can't pinpoint the exact reason you are off! I know everyone here understands!! Tracy
In an attempt to decrase dizziness, brain fog, fatigue (and headaches) I'm now going to avoid nuts and nut butters, tea except sleepy time (so drink filtered water 90% of the time), bananas, citrus. My neurotologist prescribed an 800 mg sodium, 4 ounce protein diet so I'm going back to eating 90% whole grains, fruits (except citrus and bananas), vegetables and no more than 4 ounces of eggs, meat or fish. Yesterday I looked at the book ?Heal Your Headache. The part about altering the things we can helped me understand that some days I might have a headache due to low barametric pressure or change in my hormone levels. So it's a strict diet but I'm ready to have more that the occasional day off from my less severe symptoms. I'm thankful that I haven't had vertigo in 9 or 10 months.
