Hey, I'm very new to this forum things but I feel I need help!!!! and not sure where to turn! I'm not even sure, to tell the truth, I have Meniere's or maybe that's just denial! About 5 years ago I started suffering from dizzy episodes, MRI = clear, ENG with caloric test slight paresis on the right ear and left ear all clear, no hearing loss. This has been on and off over the last 5 years seasonal and linked to illnesses which by me seem to always be sinusitis. This winter 2017-18 I got 3 episodes of sinusitis and crazy dizziness and feeling full in my ear, to the point that I was out of work for nearly 2 months. Now its spring, no illnesses and I'm still getting dizzy and partial fullness in the ear, MRI=still clear, hearing test (not during attacks) good (no loss of hearing), ENG = total paresis in right ear and some nystagmus and paresis in left ear. Non of the antihistamine drugs have helped, been put on elatrolet 10mg/day which helps a bit calm the dizzy events. I've had no real tinnitus or hearing loss (only a few seconds during extreme dizziness). But I've noted 2 different types of dizzy episodes: 1. Sudden unpredictable extreme dizzyness losing all direction or balance which is super scary but lasts only a few seconds to minutes and then to type 2. 2. Slow and general dizziness that I can partially function with that I can sense is starting up with a few seconds notice, changes throughout in extremity and can last a few days, but not able to drive or walk 100% of the time unaided etc. I've totally reduced my salt, been trying vestibular physiotherapy that the therapist thinks has helped but I don't see/feel it. Any ideas out there, especially about the 2 different types of attacks, Any knowledge who is the number 1 doctor for menieres Please help, David
I was diagnosed by a neurotologist (ENT specialist), not a neurologist and am being treated with a 800 mg sodium diet, an antiviral and as needed meds for vertigo. I haven't had vertigo in months but do get dizzy at times. My Dr. recently increased the frequency of my antiviral to see if that helps. I've read other posts here that say people have gotten a prescription for antiviral medicine from their internist. My best to all.
HI David - I just got back onto the forum today after a two year hiatus because I had no hearing loss attacks since I started allergy shots. Two years ago my ENT started me on allergy shots and claritan every day and I only had one hearing loss and fullness attack in two years (lasted about a week). Then yesterday, the field in front of my house was hayed and I wasn't on the claritan and didn't even thing about it until I woke up with a plugged ear, some hearing loss and tinnitus in that ear. I would suggest you look into allergy testing since you seem to think there is a seasonal pattern to your issues.
Very sorry Davido. Spend a lot of time on the following popular site: http://www.dizziness-and-balance.com/disorders/menieres/menieres.html Look into Vestibular Nerve Section surgery (VNS). If you're near the West Coast look into House Clinic. I don't know man. I'm sorry.
Definitely look into Migraine Associated Vertigo (MAV). People here often recommend the book Heal My Headache. You do not need to have a headache to have a migraine. If travel to Los Angeles is feasible I highly recommend Dr Derebery at House Ear Clinic. She can also evaluate the possibility of allergy being involved as well as other possibilities. Dont give up, you just need help in narrowing this down and that can take a while sometimes.
