Interesting article. I've thought a lot about dementia in general because I've had this ?brain fog for so long. I wonder if Herpes can cause Alzheimer's, will those of us already taking antivirals be slowing the progression.

I wonder this too. I also took note because i have had a handful of herpes viruses (cmv, epstein barr, whatever affected my ears ...) in the last ten years. I see i am susceptible so I wondered if i am in line for Alzheimers and i wonder if the antivirals might belp.

    June,
Can I ask if you have symptoms of CMV and or Epstein Barr?

Not now but i had full blown mono in each case at the time. (Each expresses itself as a mono). The CMV which came first was a severe case, the Epstein Barr was i think a typical case. The odd thing according to my doctors was that the tests showed it to be the first time i had had each virus which was highly unlikely in my age group 59 and 60 something respectively. I have read that almost everyone has exposure to cmv before the age of 40 with or without symptoms. The CMV came less than a year before the cochlear hydrops. The family doctor daid to me ‘if a mother has cmv, the baby can be born deaf’. When the ents gave up trying to help me, the family doctor prescribed acyclovir which was the first thing that helped me.

^^ CMV often comes with no symptoms or maybe a 24 hour flu that no one would get to a dr about, according to what i have read.

    All,

2 year patient. 95% improved. still refining! stopped caffeine, alcohol, chocolate, went low sodium and supplement with l lysine, vitamin c other minerals and vitamins along with acyclovir.

Along the line of viruses and the meniere's connection as evidenced in Dr Gacek's work and many who achieve relief after doing an antiviral regimen...

I started a search a few months back for more powerful virus killers. Lysine, acyclovir and vitamin c are great for supporting immunity or suppressing viral replication...not necessarily for killing virus. I am firmly in belief at least one viral or maybe many virals are at play (HPV, EBV &..?) with meniere's that cant be killed without a more robust antiviral effort.

I discovered in my reading about doctors treating people with monolaurin (coconut extract) etc. and successfully ridding people of the HPV EBV viruses. I didn't even know that was possible! Furthermore, I read comments on folks who have done this for meniere's and it worked well. Ever have heard of monolaurin, BHT or essiac tea? I had not.
I started taking monolaurin and BHT and essiac tea about 2 weeks ago and have had a definite positive change. tinnitus down 50% (although some die off symptoms from the antivirals which is to be expected). I plan to be tested once a year for what level my virals are to see progress. I am doing this robustly reaching all areas the antivirals can reach. teas and capsules, neti pot and colonics. I believe now for my meniere's treatment all roads lead to the removal of these viruses. nice to have more powerful tools!

Interesting stuff. I had a mono-like illness in my teens. Mono never showed up on tests, so maybe it was CMV. It was a typical cfs chronic fatigue syndrome onset, and it plagued me still (53 years old). Menieres onset in my 40s. Mom has Dementia. I don’t have any of the Alzheimer genes. Not sure what my point is... lol.
