Well last may my local ent gave me a preliminary diagnosis of menieres till I get a MRI. Got the MRI through the VA , who is slow , but I got the MRI report in and I have a acoustic neuroma on the nerve. Luckily it still small at 3mm . It explains my symptoms of Tinnitus , sudden hearing loss, vertigo/dizziness , fullness during attacks , notice it's all the same symptoms as menieres. Either way though the prognosis is deafness in the bad ear over time. Many people get these and the neuroma stops growing while still small. That's the best case scenario. I started on the tinnitustalk forum , then here on menieres talk and now I'm on acoustic neuroma association forum.. I'm getting a thorough education on hearing diseases. I'll still visit but thanks to all of y'all for your help and good luck to everybody .
Sorry to hear about your diagnosis and best of luck to you. This is exactly why though people who suspect they might have Meniere's need to get an MRI. If your doctor suggests you might have Meniere's but doesn't send you for an MRI, insist on one. Actually, a good doctor should send you for an MRI before he or she concludes you have Meniere's.
Hi Bob. Thanks for reporting back. I had middle fossa surgery to remove an acoustic neuroma in 1997 and have done just fine without the 8th nerve on my right side. My surgeons were Fukishima and Arriaga at Allegheny General in Pittsburgh. If you need surgery in the end, go to the best, whoever that is at this time. I also know a man who had gamma knife ten years ago and is doing fine. I know you are getting an education on the AN forum. That is where I went in 1997! Good luck, stay positive, and keep us posted when you have time.
