Hello, I am writing on behalf of my mother who has chronic dizziness, equilibrium issues & feeling of "heaviness in her head" on a daily basis. Her dizziness symptoms started in Nov. 2013 after she developed a respiratory infection. She had daily symptoms of dizziness, loss of equilibrium + some tinnitus but they were manageable. In Nov. 2016, the dizziness symptoms got worse & she also developed a feeling of "heaviness" in her head. In addition, her hearing got worse over a really short period of time (maybe six months). According to my mom, her worst symptom is the feeling of "heaviness in her head" & she would love if that feeling got better. I would like to add that she took Allergra for her allergies recently & this symptom got a little better. My mom is 90 + & hardly ever went to a doctor. After she developed these symptoms, she went to an ENT doctor in 2016 & an opthamalogist (in Aug. 2017), where she found out she is legally blind in one due to cataract) & basically the only doctor she occasionally sees is her allergist (for her allergies & asthma). My mom is not used to having these kinds of symptoms, so it's hard at times for her to cope with this, so I am reaching out to everyone here who has had these symptoms (especially the feeling of"heaviness in the head") & would love feedback from anyone who has experienced this & what has helped you.
Your Mom has gotten to 90 and then have this happen. So very sorry. My Mom began having similar symptoms in her early 50's, they got worse--but she was young and 'kept on going'. Later, lost hearing in one ear--had what she said was a 'roaring' in her head (I now know it was a type of tinnitus) and she eventually was nearly deaf--lived to be 100! Active until her late 80's. Then, I--her youngest daughter--began having symptoms in my low 70's (sudden hearing loss in one ear) followed by 'vertigo' the awful spinning that goes with this. Was diagnosed with Meniere's--and now an 80 and the biggest thing is the gradual hearing loss and the awful head pressure/fullness! It makes me feel tired, unable to really feel comfortable in loud situation due to sound distortion. I hope your Mom gets to see a Neuro-ent and perhaps hearing aids can help her with that---and in her case, might even help with the head pressure. I do understand--and it's 'no fun'. Alot of help and encouragement here on this board. Hoping someone here has more to suggest for her.
Read up on migraine associated vetigo mav or even just migraine. Migraine does not have to involve a headache as such. There is a book people around here recommend called Heal your Headache. I am not trying to make a diagnosis but your description reminds me of some migraine issues. You could read and see if you thinks it fits. If it does, a few dietary and environmental things might help. Otherwise, i agree, a neurotologist, ie in er ear specialist who is a specialized entwho could do a full workup with tests. Good luck.
