So I had another appt. with the specialist at Mass Eye and Ear. They did a hearing test which confirmed all the bad news and my word recognition on my right side which is my most active side at the moment is 16% and my good ear (haha) is at 56%. So needless to say I am going in for a Cochlear implant eval as soon as they can set up an appointment. Right side only at the moment. They also did a VEMP test which was weird with a bunch of pulses and sign waves on a computer to confirm everything is current with a Menieres diag. My doctor also wants me to do a Gent injection on that side before my CI. Just wondering if anyone has had hearing loss with horrible recognition and then did the CI and if it was worth it. My hearing aid on that side does not help at all. It took a long time for me to get over the hearing aid thing at 40 and now the thought of having a bionic ear is killing me. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

You might try posting with the words cochlear implant in the title so the right people will see it. I know several people here in the past had had ci’s with success.

Hey Riplip...you are in great hands at MEEI especially if you are a patient of Dr Rauch.

I would follow his lead and know he has seen the worst of the worst cases and he get it!!! As they say.

Good luck my friend and let us know how things come along.

Riplip, I'm not too far behind you, with zero hearing in my laby year (last August) and diminished hearing in my "good" ear. I hope that the CI eventually renews your ability to communicate with the world and that you find healing with that. Impaired hearing is so isolating. Please share your experience with us.

I am a patient of Dr. Rauch. I have had a change in my good ear. After consulting with Dr. Rauch in December we are closely monitoring my hearing. If it continues on a downward path he will recommend a CI. Since December I have been stable. I am very interested in your journey and wish you the best!

I am seeing Dr. Venecia and they are in the same office so I hope I get the same results as you. Still waiting for my appt and i'm on the fence about the Gent shot. Been thinking about it all weekend.
