I know that no one has proven conclusively how allergies interplay with Meniere's. However, is one of the theories that an immune complex (an antibody attached to an antigen, I believe) "clogs up" the blood vessels leading to the inner ear preventing proper blood flow to the area? I'm assuming this would happen due to the size of the molecule?
My doctor (allergist) told me, allergies are not thought to be the cause of Menieres, but that they rev up the immune system and exacerbate the symptoms. Treating allergies so I have fewer reactions takes a load off the immune system and reduce symptoms. Whatever the case, it helped my CH symptoms a lot.
I believe the relationship between MM and allergies is that if your MM is caused by the herpes virus, anything that weakens the immune system will allow the virus to get out of its latent state and do its dirty work so to speak. So for example, if you are suppressing the virus with AVs you need to increase the dose if you are being affected by seasonal allergies to compensate for the weakened immune system to keep the virus in its latent state.
I'm still getting my mind around Meniere's, but I'm an expert in my own ear troubles, which are definitely exacerbated by allergies. I think that allergies cause swelling and because everything is so tight and small in the ear anything that causes swelling just makes things worse.
IMO..its allowed to make it worse because the immune system is weakened and the virus gets out of its latent state. allergies do not cause MM it triggers symptoms, but allergies will not exacerbate or trigger symptoms them if the virus is not active because if I don't increase my AV my seasonal allergies will trigger MM symptoms but if I increase my dose my seasonal allergies will not exacerbate or trigger MM symptoms.
I have similar thoughts. It seems like the allergies exacerbated the middle ear action which in some way- everything being so tiny and close together- affects the inner ear too. That and just messing with the immune system.
i've been taking a/v's close to a yr now after taking them about a month i got better and it lasted 3 months symptoms returned i've continued 400mg every 1-2 hrs since with no relief popping the pills like crazy with no relief so this confuses me? i didn't take a/v's today for the first time because i figured it was another lost cause? haven't had a non dizzy day since march
Sorry to hear you have been dizzy everyday for so long. That really stinks. I agree it is confusing. what did your allergist say about how the shots are making you feel? Do you have any MAV symptoms or triggers? are there any other medications you are taking that can be causing your dizziness? Dizziness is a side effect of many medications.
diuretic, potassium pill, clonazepam at night, grape see extract, multivitamin, serc, lemon bioflavoinoid, vinpocetine, ester c should i try ramping up my acylovir 800mg every 2 hrs for a few weeks? had been taking 400? thanks!
I am not a fan of diurectics for MM.and they can cause dizziness. do you have your bp checked? From everything I have read dizziness can be a side effect of vinpocetine too. As far as the AV goes you have been on a high dosage for along time. Not sure taking 800 mg every 2 hours is a good idea.
blood advice pressure is great 105/65 thanks for the a/v advice dont take vinpo that often been on diuretic forever
