Hey everybody...... New member here, but was diagnosed with Meneir's about 18 years ago. Had many episodes, tinnitus, hearing loss, etc. Went to my Dr. almost eight years ago and he said "No more ladders, no more manlifts, no scaffold, no climbing, nothing in the air". I looked at him and said "that's what I do for a living!" (licensed plumber, pipefitter, and some other licenses including a Class A CDL). He just said "Not anymore. As of NOW you are retired". Anyhow, now that you have some info, due to circumstances my wife and i sold our house and now live full time in our RV. We get to travel all over this great country! Well, in the summer we are in Minnesota close to our kids. I haven't had much of any attack for about four years, but all that changed yesterday. All I did was roll over in bed and I thought someone tipped the bed over! Today I am doing better, but still foggy and some vertigo. Glad I found this forum!
Just curious... you said you went 4 years with no issues, were you doing anything to not have an attack or was it just ,pardon the expression, “dumb luck”?
I didn't go four years without any symptoms. Guess I should have clarified that. I did have some dizziness, and the tinnitus hasn't stopped, plus I did get the fullness and brain fog, but it SEEMED few and far between and didn't stop me from daily life. I actually thought I reached burnout, but again, I thought. Seems like when I do that I get in trouble.....
Curious if you have any problems driving your RV around? Seems like with me the big windshield gives me I guess a visual overload. Kind of like walking thru a shopping center or mall. Has a tendency to give me an attack.
Rich, Believe it or not, I don't seem to have any problem (normally) with visual triggers. The only trigger that I have found was the constant sounds produced by an industrial setting (I used to work industrial construction) or using a hand held snow blower. Even my riding mowers didn't give me any problems. Like I said, I don't quite follow the book....... Makes it tough to explain things to a doctor....... edit: It's kinda like my RA. Major flare-up about 35 years ago put me in the hospital for a week. No major flare-ups since. I have lost movement in most joints due to it, but not even on any medication for it.....
You can get Benign Positional Vertigo, on top of Menieres. The rolling over in bed triggering a vertigo may be that - if so, that part is very treatable. Can you see a Vestibular Physiotherapist to figure that out? If it is BPPV, they can teach you the Epley maneuvre. Just an idea.
AnneT, my problem with treatment is that I am full time RVing. About the only place that the wife and I sit for any length of time is in Minnesota. In the area we stay in there aren't many specialists, plus we are only there about 5 months at a time........
You can look up the epley maneuver on YouTube. It’s simple. I guess though, you need to know the affected ear to do the maneuver correctly. You could even go to a physical therapist. The treatment for BPPV is usually a one appt thing. Figure out which ear, learn the maneuver, repeat at home as nessecary.
I agree with Gardengal. I had BPPV once after getting a concussion while skiing. I went to a Physical Therapist one time and it never came back. It's like a miracle cure and there is no reason to live with it. If you don't know a good PT, you can google the procedure and administer it yourself. As for which ear is impacted, the below site gives the directions for determining that: https://www.webmd.com/brain/qa/how-...ected-by-benign-paroxysmal-positional-vertigo
Well, the positional vertigo has gone away.......For now. I can lay down without any vertigo again. I hate Meneir's.......
