Hi all. I haven't posted anything in a while. My symptoms have been bad off and on since March (mainly on :( ). I thought diuretics were working for me but they don't seem to be anymore. Maybe they never did, who knows. Anyway, over the past 5 and a half years I have tried diuretics, antivirals, caffeine elimination, I have had allergy testing, I have tried Betahistine.... nothing has worked for me. I have heard of TMJ being a possible cause of Meniere's and that had always interested me, but because treatment is quite pricey I had never pursued it. I have had TMJ issues since I was in Junior High and my dentist always would say "Yeah, you have TMJ" and that's it, he would move on. Since I have issues with my jaw and I have tried many other options for my treatment I have decided to take the leap and explore the TMJ route.

I had my first appointment with a dentist that specializes in TMJ last month. He did all kinds of tests and the 3d cone beam ct scan showed my jaw joints in bad shape. The condyles are pushed back towards my inner ear and my jaw has limited opening because of it. He said it is no guarantee that it would help my ear issue however he thinks there is a very good possibility and he has had many patients with Menieres and lots have had major improvements. So instead of continuing to wonder I am going to go forward with treatment and get a splint. I go back in a couple weeks to finalize.

Wish me luck. :) ??? I will keep you all updated.

I hope you get good relief -- both for ear and jaw!

Good luck Redbird! I hope this treatment offers you some relief for all issues! I had some TMJ issues for a while in my 20s but it's been about 20 years since then and I never explored that route. It seems not uncommon for these issues to go hand in hand.

    Redbird,
Thanks for your post. I suspect that I have TMJ because I have popping in that joint when I open my mouth wide and sometimes have pain.
I wish you relief. What is the "splint"?

Marie, the splint is a custom made mouthpiece that will fit over my bottom teeth. I will wear it for an extended period of time and it is supposed to gradually move my jaw into the correct position. We are hoping that will relieve some pressure from my inner ear.

I have meniere’s and have been under treatment for TMJ since the first week of July. In the last couple of weeks I noticed the fullness is gone in my ear. I am hardly dizzy any more. I am suppose to wear my orthotic for 6 to eight months. It has definitely helped me. I hope the treatment helps you.

Hi Redbird, Did you find any relief with the mouth peice at all? I've made an apt with a TMJ specialist next month. Just wondering if it helped.

I got my TMJ appliance in Dec. and at first I noticed some changes in pressure, definitely was doing something to my eustachian tube or my inner ear canal. i was experiencing more "Squeaky noises" due to pressure in that area than usual. However i just had a relapse and my ear is worse than ever. This after having a great year of almost no problems.. so I'm not sure what to think... I thought I'd find some relieve but i'm now sidelined again until this bout passes.

What's even worse is I'm not sure what caused this relapse.. was it the TMJ appliance? Was it the beef jerky I had months ago? is it the resurgence of prediabetes? a new CPAP mask? ugh... so much to tackle....
