The genius who deemed it a good idea to place toilets so incredibly close to beds in honeymoon suites is no better than the nitwit who cut down the last tree on Easter Island.

My dad is 95 in excellent health and has all his facilities. He lives in assisted living. He was married to my mom for over 70 years. She passed away 3 years ago. She took wonderful care of him during his working years and beyond. He was used to being waited on and so that is why he is in assisted living. Now with the pandemic he is not allowed to see any of his family. He is not allowed to go for walks or a car ride with his family even though we are all healthy and willing to take all precautions to be with him. So my mind wonders when will this all end for us? When will be together again? He is not in a nursing home. He is in his own apartment but our states guide lines for assistant living are the same for nursing homes. My heart is heavy for him. He feels like he is in jail. I just wonder when will it change for him:(

P.S. I know we are not the only family I'm this situation. We are all in this together. God Bless.

I wish I were in possession of the knowledge required to definitively answer these questions for you, & your father, Redwing.

Via telephone I assisted my great-uncle in utilising FaceTime—a videotelephony application—as he & I are close friends. This allowed us to regularly see & speak with one another & continue our games of chess during the hight of Australia's epidemiological public health measures.

During this difficult time, are you able to employ a similar application when corresponding with your father?

In addition to 'like', 'agree', 'fistbump/thanks', 'funny', 'winner' et cetera, there should be a hug icon option.

Nathan you are such a caring soul and I thank you. My dad and I correspond by telephone and email. I send him pictures of projects we are working. He does not have a cell phone just a regular landline so FaceTime and those type of apps are not available to him. Perhaps one of the aides could help him set up Zoom on his computer that's a thought. We talk every other day sometimes every day. When he can get out in the fresh air he is happy but they only let him out for a walk once a day. No sitting on the beautiful porch. The good news is our weather for the first time this Spring is beautiful for the whole week! Thank you Nathan for your kindness and friendship. I hope you are able to see your Uncle in person now? How fortunate for both of you to be able to play chess together.

Federally, on the 8th of May, Australia relaxed its social distancing laws from stage four to three. However states are acting somewhat independently, from both a legal & societal point of view.

Currently, Victorian residents can only leave their house for one of five essential reasons, these reasons being:

    - Shopping for food or other essential goods & services

    - Work & education

    - Care & compassionate reasons

    - Exercise

    - Visiting friends & family

Hence while it is now legal for me to see my great-uncle—who is a retired academic, surrounded by books, & by nature a recluse: which plays a significant factor into the following—we've decided to wait & see what the slack in these measures bring. Many Victorians are erring on the side of caution in reference to socialisation, however the majority are back working in attempts to stitch the holes torn into our economy.

I hope you're able to see your father sooner rather than later. If my great-uncle weren't a recluse, & comfortable spending long periods of time by himself while submerged in books & the process of peer review, I would be as desperate to raise his spirits as you are your father.

Please excuse any possible typographical errors, I woke up only moments ago.

Warm wishes to you, & your fellow Americans from a tired Aussie on the opposite side of the globe, which is, more accurately, an oblate spheroid *a sleepy chuckle

Nathan our state is very similar to yours in regards to reopening. We have decided also to see how it all plays out before partaking in the opening of restaurants, public parks etc. Last week we did golf by ourselves, walking no carts, no touching of the pins, and leaving the area as soon as our round was over. We are very cautious about being around crowds. If a trail or parking lot is crowded we find another spot to go to. As for seeing my dad he along with all residents in assisted living facilities is still in lockdown. :(. I don't hold out much hope for seeing these facilities reopening right away.

I'm so sorry, Red. Can you guys say, "hi," outside his window? Even if he lives on the 2nd floor, would it be possible for you to have a banner placed that he can see?? You could get a puzzle made with a picture of all of you on it. Just shooting from the hip. ::hugs::

Autumn thank you for your kind words and suggestions. He is on the second floor so we haven't been able to do window type visits. He enjoys our phone conversations and emails. What he really wants to do is go for a ride in the car to see what is going on in our town and see the beautiful landscaping of our state. It would do him so much good. Our state is starting to reopen and we are hoping soon he can come with us for a ride.

Who would like to spend, mm, something on the order of the next seven months to seven years, with yours truely, on Callisto, the fourth & farthest of the Galilean moons?

It's said to be entirely uninhabitable, however I'm sure we could pitch a sturdy & bright orange, four season tent somewhere.

I’d give it a go, Nathan. Earth is rapidly becoming inhabitable on several levels. What’s the worst that could happen? Can I bring anything?

Everything you require you already have. Which is to say bring your intelligence, your enlightenment, your wits, your courage, your compassion, your inner bad-ass, & your sense of adventure.

Everything else required are products of, & downstream from there.

Next week they are going to finally start having visits outside with one visitor at a time. Time limits to allow everyone to see their person. It's a start.
