Diagnosed with MD in 2017 and relatively stable with 1,500 mg sodium diet. Started having nausea in the mornings with balance issues and progressive tinnitus this past November. Sleeping 4-5 hours at night before being awoken by tinnitus with sweats. I was placed on betahistine 12 mg bid around April and had significant reduction in balance and nausea issues, but continue to struggle with tinnitus and fragmented sleep. Took this medication for about 4 months. Betahistine makes be foggy and slows me down a bit and had to taper off. Back to square one. Has anyone else had issues with betahistine?
Are you sure betahisitin causes these symptoms? All the symptoms you tell belong to Meniere's disease, as I see it Meniere is causing those symptoms, not betahistine. Also your betahistine dose is very low, I was with 24mg every 12h and now I am with 18mg every 12h. It took months to have a good effect, but it did work for me.
Welcome to the Menieres Zombie Club. I have had no issues with Beta BUT my overall quality of life is such that I have to look up to see whale s##t most days . I sleep in blocks of 2 - 3 hours a night, will get up for an hour and then maybe back to sleep for 2-3 hours . Last night for example I could not stand the noise anymore and the TV sound is so distorted I just said #### it and went to bed at 7:15 PM. So guess what - I am wide awake at 2:30 , I got my sleep and now I'm up at 2:45 AM. Make for a long , tiring and boring day. Sometimes I nap during the day, sometimes not. I have been taking ambien , melatonin, sometimes both together. So tonight I'll be dozing off again early and so the cycle continues. At least I'm retired, don't know how folks can work with this BS. I could be the president of the zombie club.
Hi Rand. i have the same issues like you. I am taking betahistine 16 mg 3 times a day for 11 days already. 3 days ago i had a vertigo episode. It did not seem that it is blocking those episodes at all. I feel lazy and not energetic but this is ok for me if vertigo attacks never show up.
