Hello friends! Intravenous vitamin therapies might be something to consider - not sure if anyone has tried yet and has insight to offer, but for example, IV Vitamin C has supposedly been used as a successful Herpes treatment (for shingles) and if you are one of us that feel that there is a viral component to this illness - these anti-viral & immune enhancing results seem intriguing. There is also IV glutathione (which is something that often comes up in Meniere's circles) and several other vitamins/substances that have immune boosting & inflammation reducing properties - I understand too that the components delivered to each patient can be customized. It's not available everywhere nor affordable for everyone but something to consider?
What is the difference from taking high doses of long-acting vitamin C by mouth? Oral vitamin C even helps better absorption of iron.
I would suggest: There is a limit to how much Vitamin C can be absorbed by the gut at one time, I believe it is about 1g/hour. Some people may not tolerate high doses of vitamin C well finding that it irritates the gut due to the acidity It can cause diarrhea in high doses You can give more through IV; significantly higher doses of Vitamin C can be administered You can mix it with other things that may not be as well absorbed in the gut like the aforementioned glutathione I am not suggesting that IV Vitamin C be a substitute for regular ingestion of a Vitamin C daily supplement but rather that it may "kick start" one's healing or be done here and there in conjunction with whatever regimen one may be following.
It sounds interesting, but before I spend the money on IV vitamin C (assuming it is as expensive as you say) I would try it orally. It is true that it can cause diarrhea, but it depends on each person and their tolerance, for example I found that with 4g / day I had mild gas and stomach pains, but not diarrhea. As for the dosage of 1g / hour it is more than enough I think, except that the intravenous treatment for herpes uses much higher doses, I bought a vitamin C with a prolonged effect for 12h and what they do is release 500mg at once when swallowed and another 500mg slowly in the following hours, I took one of these pills every 8 hours (with four it hurt my stomach and I considered that 3g was enough). I did not notice great improvements so I opted to take single doses to make sure I absorbed the iron in meals alone and now I take 80mg when I wake up with 14mg of iron, with food I take vitamins that have 400mg of vitamin C and at dinner I take another 80mg. In any case, it is necessary to learn more about the intravenous, it may be advisable if, for example, it allows injecting much higher doses than 3-4g in pills. One user in the forum's database controlled his Meniere by taking up to 8g a day of vitamin C, but the vast majority would not bear those amounts without diarrhea.
It seems you have tried a lot of things. Are you free of MD symptoms now? Which method helped you the most?
Just adding to my own post a note of caution - from doing more reading on the subject. Depending on the type of IV, it appears that there might be sodium in there (perhaps as a carrier for Vitamin C for example though other IV types may not have). And certainly being IV by definition would increase blood volume temporarily.... would that cause the dreaded inner ear swelling? Not sure but these are definitely things that may be a contraindication to a Meniere's patient so as JonBubo suggested above - an experienced practitioner would better be able to advise...
