Hi Dears ! I Hope You all are doing well and You all are fine ! First of all My English is not so strong.
When First vertigo hit me, it was in February. On day 3 of this Disease, I started Betahistine (16mg after 12 hours) and Stemetil(12 hours/day). I took it for a month, and I was completely symptoms free,
After 3 months, Vertigos came back, but very less frequencies, which I could neglect. So I didn't take Betahistine again.
After 5 and half months of This disease, My Vertigos came back with sharp and powerfull frequencies, with sharp tinnitus and dizziness and balance issues, as well, My ENT specialist prescribed me Betahistine(Same 16mg for 12-12 hours) and Stemetil (same doze) for 2 Months, I took those medication ,but unfortunately no difference at all ! My vertigos did not go away, (not that much sharp and of high frequence) my balance was somewhat disturbed, but cured with Stemetil! And Tinnitus is was so high
Upto Now, I'm taking the same Doze of Betahistine(16mg 2 times a day) with Stemetil ! I think it's my 4th(1/2) month of starting these Betahistine doze again. today is my 4th day that I am A bit comfortable from Vertigos, and Balance Issues, yet Vertigos are there , it occurs minimum 2-3 times a day, sometimes sever , sometimes small.
So Dears, I wanted to ask some questions
    1) For how much days or months onwards I should keep taking these Betahistine ?
    2) Should I stop taking Stemetil?
    3) This comfort(Which Im feeling from 4-5 days ) is due to the effect of Betahistine ?
    4) Recommend me something Useful, of Someone tried and got better !

I took betahistine for 6 months (24mg / 12h), I have stopped it four weeks ago to see what happens.

I do not know Stemetil, I have been prescribed sulpiride for severe attacks of vertigo and, for now, it has worked for me.

Hi from my understanding stemitil is best used for acute attacks and not long term as it becomes less effective due to tolerance, betahistine dose seems to vary here in the UK seems to be precibed at 16mg three times daily and is used long term if effective. I' think due to the fact symptoms come and go makes it more difficult to find out what's working for you and would require a lot of experimentation and bravery as everyone dreads risking symptoms coming back. Could be the case people are taking long term meds without really knowing if it's offering benefits. I'm on betahistine 16mg x 3 to be honest not sure if it's doing anything I have daily small periods of giddiness mainly affected by visual stimulation I think, periods of nausea, but no big attacks of vertigo, tinnitus is really loud nothing stops that. But not sure if it's betahistine stopping the bit attacks or if it's the nature of the disease time and experience will tell. I've just started Benny hills vitamin b regime and running it with betahistine dose to see what happens , I much prefer to be on natural stuff so if things improve I'll wean off betahistine and see what happens
Hope you find what works for you like me your just starting this journey

Please don't rely on drugs alone to fix this. There are probably underlying things in your diet and/or lifestyle that are contributing to the problem. Waiting for drugs to cure the problem is like having diabetes and taking insulin but then not paying any attention to your diet and eating lots of sugar. It just isn't going to work!

It has to be a drugs + doing the work of fixing your own health and finding out what is causing this situation in the first place. And "doing the work" usually means changing your diet and taking natural supplements.

Usually your problems can be caused by any one (but often a combination) of:
    • Viral infection from one of the Herpes viruses that live in our bodies forever once we have them. Please read the "John of Ohio" regimen in these forums
    • Candida infection (from having too much yeast living in our intestinatal tracts instead of the good bacteria that is supposed to be there). Please research "Candida infection" or "Candidiasis" - there are many good books on the subject too.
    • Food allergies (most of the time wheat/gluten). Try taking gluten out of your diet (wheat, barley and other grains - read about that).
    • The effects of chronic stress leading to impaired adrenal function. Research "adrenal insufficiency"
If it seems overwhelming or you want to get a head start, already today you can begin with:
    1. Dropping the sugar from your diet, including natural sugars like in fruit juices. The odd piece of fruit - fine, but other sweets and sugars need to go
    2. Dropping the wheat and barley from your diet. Move to rice, potatoes, quinoa, couscous, millet, oats.
    3. Where possible, avoid dairy products (milk, cheese, yogurt, ice cream). Look at having almond/rice/oat milk products instead. Eggs are NOT dairy and while many people are allergic to eggs, let's not worry about that for now.
    4. Start taking a high potency multivitamin (with food) that includes 50mgs of the B vitamins (someone at the supplement store can help you find this)
    5. Start taking a good probiotic supplement (also called "acidophilus", ask for a high potency one and one with a mixture of different types of bacteria.... these are not bad bacteria that cause infections but the good bacteria that live in our guts and are very beneficial that we would get in things like yogurt). Take at night before bed.
    6. Start taking 1000 mgs of vitamin C, one with at least two of your meals
    7. If you have ever had a cold sore in your life (Herpes Simplex), start taking Lysine (500mg), two in between a meal.. (while you read more about the John of Ohio approach on these forums). This is another natural supplement (it's an amino acid which is found in all manner of proteins we eat).
These are all inexpensive, safe things you can do to turn things around. Items 1-6 should be done by everyone in the general population for good health anyway so you can't lose! (Item 7 is safe but not everyone needs this.) And it may not be enough but it covers the real basics to get things moving on a path to restored health....

    Good luck!

Oh! So sorry! I forgot to add one very critical piece to the items above.

You have to watch your salt (sodium) intake. This is a must. Salt is needed to live but people eat way too much. You want to keep it to 1500-2000mgs of sodium per day (never less than 1000mg though). Read labels on your packages and do the math. Avoid processed and packaged foods as they are usually very high in sodium. When you are cooking, you can add salt but understand that 1/4 tsp of it has 600mg.

You can find salt substitutes at the store to use.

    Hello all,
First post here. Looking for support group as disease progresses. About to start Betahistine 16mg. Last medical management option for me, says specialist. Diagnosed with Ménière's disease over 13 years ago. Periodic vertigo attacks over the years with constant tinnitus. Now worsening with latest bout. Debilitating vertigo more frequent with nausea/vomiting. Dizziness and slight queaziness seems to be the norm. Hearing loss now significant in effected ear. If Betahistine not miracle drug for me, then specialist suggesting Labrythectomy with Cochlear Implant. Anxious at possibility and wondering if anyone has been there.

    Hello Papa K !
May You Get well Soon !
Take Betahistine 16mg (3times a day) for 2 weeks, if U feel better, then carry on with Your doze, and take it for 2month(minimum) !
And before Labyrinthectomy, do MRI imaging of Your Brain and Temporal Bones ! And go for Neurologolist and ENT, show them Your MRI report, if its clear then no use of Labyrinthectomy !
We are not doctors here, but we share our experiences here !
