Mindosa, how are your symptoms progressing with your TMJ appliance? You saw some initial improvement, has it continued to improve?

In the middle of the summer I reached a safe plateau and from that moment, there were no really bad days anymore as it was in the first 3 months. However I am not 100% free of MD symptoms yet.

I also bought on amazon another appliance for the night, because with the first one, it's impossible to sleep - it's too big.

The treatment plan was - after 2-3 months of using the first appliance (day and night) I had to change to another, to adjustable and more advanced, but I didn't go to the dentist. I already spent more than 4000 euros on this disease and spending 4000 - 6000 euros more, when I already got the major relief didn't sound right, so I decided to wait and to experiment with the cheaper supplements and other stuff.

I also had an appointment to another dentist to fix my old root canals, for the possible inflammation, but the quarantine began again and I had to postpone it.

OK - That's great for you! It's funny, I spent quite a bit of time on this forum years ago and I don't recall much discussion about TMJ, especially that MD symptoms can be vanquished by the use of a TMJ correction device. Very useful. There was discussion about dental issues but not much on TMJ that I can remember.

Yes indeed, in this forum there is no much info about TMJ disorder, but another forum - Meniere's No More Facebook group it’s all about TMJ and cervical spine disorders and these two things are very connected.
    More about this:
Symptom relief after treatment of temporomandibular and cervical spine disorders in patients with Meniere's disease: a three-year follow-up - PubMed

So for me this kind of strange, we have the same MD disease, but different forums “propagate” different MD causes. In this forum, mostly people are writing about virus theory, but in Meniere's No More group there is no word about virus theory as a possible MD cause, at least I didn't see it.

I personally believe that TMJ disorder could be very connected to the ears problems. Our lower jaw joints are very close to our inner ears. Put your fingers deep in your ears and try to chew and you will see for yourself. Also I noticed, when I move my lower jaw sideways, the sound levels also are shifting in my ears. Also, when I wear a TMJ appliance, it helps to alleviate the pressure in the ears, by moving the lower jaw joints down from the ears.
So there are quite enough connections.

    Post from Veronica Morua

Just returned from Austin from seeing Dr Loveless dentist / TMJ specialist.

First appointment was to discuss facial pain, jam alignment and etc and if I was a potential patient. Temporary mouth piece made to rest my jaw in, for morning and night.

Conclusion after appointment - I was

Second appointment was measurement of the stress on my facial and jaw muscles, dental mold done, side profile pictures taken, 3 D imagining completed. Temporary mouth piece made to rest my jaw in, for all day and night wear. Second one made due to me chewing thru the first one.

Third appointment was more measuring of the stress on my facial and jaw muscles. I was given a jaw and neck massage, a neck rest with lavender, and instructions on how to relax and rest my jaw. Another mold was made, and another 3 D imaging completed with the new mold.

Fourth appointment to discuss his findings.

    1. Upper mouth palate too small, creating over lapping teeth as teen, orthodontics took the over lapping teeth out verses creating a larger space for teeth to fall in place

    2. With that in mind, now the upper jaw does not fit in lower jaw area, creating the jaw to move forward to find a resting place.

    3. That resting place now puts the TMJ bone pushed up in the area it should actually rest in, causing a continuous hitting motion to the area. Causing inflammation in the area, which is near the inner ear

    4. My bone has hit for all these years my bone is no longer curved, its has flat areas one both sides

    5. Tongue tied plays a part in this two, because of how the jaw rest incorrectly, making the tongue now rest correctly when sleeping, which causes snoring or sleep apnea. My endocrinologist has referred me to request my ENT to refer me for a sleep study. Due to being disabled I have government funded insurance which requires a referral for specialist
    Suggested treatment

    1. Phase One - Two Orthotics / appliance day time which is made of arcylic resin and night time appliance which is made of plastic (upper and lower will be fixed together) Cost $3500 and includes adjustments. Appliance are made at the Willams Dental Lab in California

    2. Phase Two - Orthodontics - two widen upper mouth palate, which will create gaps in my teeth, two suggestions given - one - is to have bridges add in or replacement teeth.
He also recommended I have a tongue tied procedure done, ALCAT testing done (food sensitive), purchase a posture pump -for forward head posture.

He was clear one issue effects another and I need to address all issues.

At the end of my appointment which was scheduled for an hour, and took almost two. I explained to him I am not asking all these questions for myself. I ask these question for the thousands of individuals that have been diagnosed with Menieres. I explained most if not all of our ENT's say its a inner ear disorder and build up fluid and do not accept nor recognize TMJ or upper cervical spine miss alignments as a cause. He quickly stated he works with a ENT out of Austin Texas, Dr Tamez - Tejas Ear, Nose and Throat PA that recognizes the connection. Dr Tamez refers his Menieres patients to him for evaluation and etc.

Next is to call Dr Alders office, send all the imaging and findings from Dr Loveless, and request he do his findings and schedule a phone appointment to discuss his treatment plan.

Below is a picture of the day time appliance

From there .. its about prayer, looking in the Bible on how to make the right decision for myself. My own conclusion..
