Has anyone out there gotten any REAL relief by stopping alcohol ?

Does this also apply to people that don’t get migraines?

 

What he does say is that you can have a migraine without headaches or the dizziness aspect can be a build up of triggers. He says that a foodstuff or drink or other triggers like mold or certain chemicals or even gasses given off by new goods like a fridge or new furniture can accumulate. For instance drinking alcohol might affect you one day but not another. It is the cumulative effect that pushes you over your threshold. For example if your individual trigger threshold was say 90 out of a 100 and you are idling along on a score of 80, tolerating certain triggers, ingesting or being exposed to other triggers mentioned above or even sleep deprivation or stress can push you way past your individual threshold.

 

The cumulative effect is what i was told about allergies too. I think there are not satisfying once and for all answers that we want as much as there are things we can learn over time through observation and trial and error. No one can give you a green card that guarantees alcohol will not have a deleterious effect. We kind of learn and decide what is worth the price we pay. Most stressors contribute to the problem I think. Try to take off as many as you can and maybe you can make room for a little alcohol or something else you really enjoy.

 

I have more issues with caffeine than alcohol. Even a small amount of caffeine makes my tinnitus louder and louder!

 

I wonder if the caffeine effect isn't somewhat related to blood pressure? My otologist kept stressing low sat diet. Salt is notoriously bad for blood pressure. My wife has high blood pressure and now that I think about it she can't wear sunglasses because the veins around her ears are so very sensitive. We both gave up caffeine. Pretty tough at first but much easier now. I'll be curious to see if her ears get less sensitive.

 

I actually just started reading the book that he mentions above and caffeine is a trigger. In the book he explains why her blood vessels on the side of her head would be hurting because of it. It has been a very good read so far.

 

FWIW... I am 42 and have only had a small sip of alcohol in my entire life, and I gave up the little caffeine that I had drank 6 months ago. I still have Meniere's symptoms.

 

Betahistine (serc) is standard treatment given by doctors in the uk as a preventative. Buccastem is given to stop an attack ( nausea and vomiting) in fairly quick time. Taken under the tongue, but best check with Dr first as can be bought over the counter.

 

About 4 years ago I quit coffee, vodka and the salt shaker all on the same day so I can't say for sure that quitting alcohol helped me get better. But my whole digestive system sure improved dramatically.
Had a reason to celebrate last July and had a vodka, didn't feel good and had to go lay down!

 

Wow! After reading your post I went, found it and bought it on Kindle and read the whole thing in one day. This was Friday that I read it and started following his book and diet. Today is Sunday and probably 80% of my symptoms are gone. Last week I could barely walk! I was diagnosed by an ENT as Meniere's. I never truly though that was correct. Because I did not have the hearing loss in the effected ear or the fullness. Just extreme vertigo, sensitive to sound, sensitive to light, sensitive to busy patterns like in grocery stores. I was following this crazy low sodium diet that wasn't helping. And now I realize why! Thank you for mentioning this book. I think it solved my real problem.

When I took up yoga, an hour a day, I hoped that somehow it would fix whatever was causing my horrendous cochlear hydrops symptoms and prevent my going entirely deaf and losing my balance altogether(I was already missing one hearing and balance nerve). It did not. What it did do was calm me, more each day. After a while I was able to talk to my family doctor in a calm, slightly detached way that allowed us to talk through the possibilities. That changed everything. She told me in essence, that the specialists were out of things to try, they wanted to help but they couldn’t. I told her I had read some things on the Internet about antivirals but I didn’t know what to think about them. She thought it was worth a ‘try’ and encouraged me to do so. It worked. I got about half a cure from them. I found a doctor in LA and wrote a calm letter summarizing my treatment so far, I made an apt ... that was in 2008. I have been near normal hearing and had no further balance problems for more than ten years. The yoga made me able to find the helpers I needed. I am suggesting that alcohol as a crutch and it’s effects may be preventing you from finding the helpers you need and as time goes by you will drink more because that is how alcohol works. It will interfere more. It’s worth a thought.

 

I don’t drink alcohol but caffeine is a different story. Gotta have my tea.

 

No difference when I drink or not.
