Just a quick update - I'm so super stoked to be vertigo free for a year on the 8th of June... I still know my menieres is there but with dietary changes and antivirals I can keep the vertigo at bay. I've booked in for a hearing test on the 8th of June and hope maybe there will be an improvement. I still have tinnitus but no ear pressure or vertigo. I recommend reading Joe Bongiorno menieres story, it helped me immensely on my journey to kicking this disease in the bum... well, ear!
    My daily regimen is:
1gm of Valaciclovir, kyolic Garlic, pine bark (pycnogenol) and a good probiotic.
I drink dandelion tea (water retention), I avoid Gluten, dairy and sugar and I do Wim Hof breathing and cold water therapy.
I have two young boys, who love the out doors, mountain biking, snowboarding, surfing - when I was "sick" it was so hard on them, my husband and myself. It feels great to have control, strength and confidence back.
My heart goes out to all who suffer from this horrid disease ❤

Gotta love these stories, I too have enjoyed being vertigo free for 1 year and 8 months. The valacyclovir has been the ticket for me as well. I've noticed that as the good months go by I just keep feeling better and better. Hearing has returned, fullness is completely gone, brain fog has lifted, even the tinnitus keeps improving.
I urge all Meniers sufferers to try antivirals.

How do you get a prescription for valacyclovir? My primary care doctor is very tight on what she thinks are unnecessary drugs.

Agree with Pa Cowboy. My Otolaryngologist does not give the virus diagnosis any creedence. I went to my primary doctor, looked him dead in the eye, and said I don't want to live like this anymore. He wrote the script without batting an eye.

I too spoke to the lead Menieres specialist in New Zealand about trying antivirals as betahistine made me feel worse (I lost 6kg in 6months even though I was eating more than usual). She said she'd never heard of antivirals being prescribed for Menieres and wasn't really interested in the information I had gathered but if my GP was OK prescribing it and monitored my kidney and liver function, it was up to me. I tried Valaciclovir for 3 weeks and started feeling close to "normal" again, the brain fog was lifting, I was so excited. Then a few days after I finished 3 weeks worth I had the worst vertigo attack I'd ever had. I called my GP the next day in tears and she agreed on Dr Richard Gaceks dosages for antivirals and Menieres. It worked for me straight away, I went from weekly attacked to none! It took a few more weeks for the anxiety, ear fullness and brain fog to lift. Since I have printed out and sent ever scrap of info on antivirals and Menieres to the specialist - Dr Richard Gacek paper - Joe Bongiorno story. This needs to be an option for anyone with Menieres to try.

I had immediate relief with the ear fullness but it took 6 months for the vertigo to completely disappear. So make sure to not give up after a few weeks. I'm still taking 3 grams a day as I'm to scared to quit, Doc says he has no problem with me continuing with valacyclovir.

Yes absolutely true. My Menieres is definitely still there. I take 1g a day now but think diet has helped me too. I just posted on a thread about diet. I had a definite wobble over the Easter break.

Love your story TinaG, so glad you've found relief. I've also found success with Valacyclovir at 1g/day maintenance... been on them since October. I still have tinnitus and hearing loss but no more vertigo/fullness.

I recommend everyone try anti-virals as they are extremely safe. 3 pills per day until vestibular symptoms stop (vertigo/fullness), then drop down to 2 for a few weeks to ensure symptoms don't return, then drop to 1 for maintenance.
