    Hi everyone,

I just came across the information that I had not seen in Meniere's community.

If you color your hair with synthetic dye or artificial hair color, stop it or replace it with 100% organic dyes made from Henna or seaweed.
If you don't dye, let's stay away from it.

Most of hair colors in the market contain artificial dye ingredients which is toxic to vestibular and inner ear system. P-phenylenediamine, P-aminophenol, and Toluene are a few of them. They don't cause symptoms to everyone, but they do cause MD-like symptoms such as vertigo, tinnitus, and hearing loss to some of us. These chemicals are absorbed from the skin, accumulated in cerebellum, and most of them tend to stay in the body to keep causing troubles.

I've had bad Meniere's experiences with both, frankly. For some reason Henna was a real problem for me. My suggestion is to always do a skin test before using the whole bottle/jar/package. Save yourself a potentially really bad time.

I agree, a skin test is always a good practice before using a whole bottle. My doctor says someone who is allergic to ivy / oak should also stay away from Henna. Also, many hair colors labeling Henna in the market still contain above-mentioned toxic ingredients.

It was not exactly a dye, but one of the things that I suspect could accelerate the appearance of my Meniere was the use of Minoxidil, a liquid to prevent hair loss and regenerate it if used for more than a year twice a day . I have to say that this hair growth worked, it did not work miracles, but I did have more hair hiding my bald spots.

I used it for three years before my Meniere symptom triad was complete, I have not found any studies that indicate it could affect the inner ear, but I just suspect. I found a user who in a forum commented that after using Minoxidil he had started to have tinnitus and if it was related, but no one could answer him with certainty.

In any case, it's been 15 months since I stopped Minoxidil and I still have tinnitus, deafness and dizziness.

That’s one I can scratch off the list. I have male pattern baldness and what hair I have left is silver/white.
