Does anyone use a nightly bite guard? I have been well for 3 years now (after 12 years of Menieres) and using the bite guard every night of the 3 years. I do also take black seed oil and pepper with turmeric 2x per day along with a tiny bit of antiviral, but the amount of antiviral is not really considered therapeutic. I was wondering if anyone uses a bite guard and still has Menieres syptoms?

I'm curious about this. I can't help feel do the proximity that is probable relationship to tmj jaw issues. Dr.s admit TMJ issues can cause trigeminal neuralgia. So a bite guard benefitting Menieres is intriguing. Curious what others say.

Yes, I have had a bite appliance for about 30 years. I had been diagnosed with Meniere's 18 years ago. The past two years the TMJ really kicked in, leading me to a "specialist" as I could barely open my mouth, constant clicking and locking of my jaw. $8,000 and 3 upper and lower interlocking appliances later, I am back to my original single guard from original dentist. I started getting more serious and constant Meniere's symptoms/vertigo at about the same time. I believe there is a connection between Meniere's and TMJ....possibly the TMJ aggrevating the nerves in the ear. However, not one of my dentists (2) nor my ENT/OTO's (3...one at Duke University) tell me there is no connection. Keep wearing the night guard...for your teeth's sake. I have found if I take a tylenol before bed, I feel relief of the TMJ and lessens the vertigo until the day wears on. I do have 70% hearing loss, constant tinnitus, and vertigo to some degree, and head discomfort but it's the vertigo that is debilitating. I have had a series of the steroid injections which do seem to help a bit. I was also prescribed Betahistine by my Duke ENT but the next Dr. told me to stop it. I didn't feel any difference with or without. We all seem to have a different experience but I most definitely believe there is a connection between the jaw and ear.

Thanks Surfer girl. Seems your clenching situation worse than mine. Yes, I believe that the dental professionals that call themselves tmj specialists are mostly psychotic thieves and help very few people. I also went to one and realized she was full of herself and very money hungry. The plastic biteguards are so much more comfortable and therefore you can wear them consistently. Alas, I am still not sure which thing I do got me out of Menieres. But, I know the biteguard actually helps my teeth and perhaps my ears. All the years I had Menieres , when I would start a new cycle of Menieres terror, it would always be when I woke up with hearing all but gone and soon followed by vertigo. Seemed like something I did in my sleep. I would often catch myself clenching in the middle of the night. Now I never do that with the guard.
