I’ve been on prednisone for a few weeks now since the preliminary diagnosis, and I’m really starting to feel better. This week is my last week on the prednisone - has anyone expected a return of symptoms after being on prednisone and going off of it? Wishing you all a good Monday
Within days all my symptoms returned. I consider prednisone to be a temporary treatment for a permanent problem. How many mg are you on and how many weeks exactly.
After my diagnosis, I did a round of prednisone and then a series of dexamethasone injections. My symptoms settled down after that, although not forever. It’s definitely possible for the steroids to help pause the symptom even after you stop taking them.
Correct. There is no cure for MM. all these therapies are designed to help your body heal. Once you feel better, the hard part begins by trying to identify your triggers. That is the key to living with the disease for the rest of your life. I would get tested for allergies, mineral deficiencies, and monitor your diet.
I am actually on 40mg of prednisone as we speak. It has helped I also had dexamethasone shots into my ear. The prednisone helped more when it first happened.
I was on prednisone when I was first diagnosed, but the help only lasted a short while. I needed something to help with vertigo, nausea, tinnitus, etc.
You are totally correct. This is a life long problem and steroids won't do the job but for a short while.
Yes, the symptoms returned very quickly after I was off prednisone. Soooo sorry to have to tell you this, and maybe your situation will be different.
Again, try to get to to root cause that may be triggering your episodes. Get tested for everything in my view that you can. Of course, there could be a viral component too, which many have said resulted in their attacks. As for treatment, I’m of the opinion you treat aggressively—kitchen sink—-especially if you are miserable. ITS shots, diuretic, betahistine, etc. remove common triggers like alcohol and caffeine.
It’s a shame Prednisone isn’t ( wasn’t) more than temporary. During my the third year, the prednisone had zero Impact on me personally.
