Hi, everybody! Still new to all of this... I'm a bit surprised by a long bout of dizzy/nausea/ tinnitis, etc. I've been off work for a week, on multiple allergy meds and steroids, keep having "almost decent" hours when I think I've turned the corner, only to have another round, wake up with it, etc. Have been to the doc, have an ENT appointment in a month. Sigh. Has anyone else had days of repeated "attacks", or am I just weird? Thanks so much!
Tango, your attacks are not strange to most people on this site. The unpredictability of the attacks, or just general malaise that comes with this monster, has frustrated many of us. If you decide to treat this as a Herpes Simplex Virus, like many of us have, you may discover another frustrating twist. As the anti-viral treatment (drugs or supplements) begins to threaten the virus, it responds with a fighting attitude and leaves you feeling worse than when you started the treatment. But for those of us who have persevered, the results have been significant. I take 3,000mg of Valacyclovir, 3,000mg of L-Lyzine, 4,000mg of Complex Vitamin C, 600IU Vitamin E, along with a few other supplements every day to try to subdue the beast. I am working on week 3 of "decent" hours and hope I am turning the corner. But you have to be vigilant! Good luck and best of health to you.
Thank you VERY much! I was getting confused by the definitions I've read of "attacks" lasting "Twenty minutes up to 24 hours". Nothing mentioned daily bouts, so I must have been too literal! Really appreciate the info...my first bout was YEARS ago, so I'm sort of starting from scratch. Trying aromatherapy tips from info here, starting notes to try and find my causes...thank you for the encouragement! My best to you and everyone here!
One quick followup. My first attack was 32 years ago and it was a doozy that landed me at the ER of the local hospital. That was 8 hours of indescribable vertigo with vomitting that eventually split my esophagus so the vomit became blood erupting out of me like a fire hydrant. Hence the ER trip. After that I had periodic episodes of similar long bouts of vomitting. The interval between attacks could be six months, a few weeks or every week. Just random periodicity. And it lasted anywhere from 3 to 8 hours but then it would be gone. I would have no daily issues (except the tinnitus which hasn't gone away in the last 32 years) until the next bout. After about 20 years of this, the disease seemed to mutate into bouts of dysequilibrium. Those bouts came more frequently and lasted longer. Each episode varied from an hour to days or weeks. It didn't just hit hard and leave. It hit and would cling to me like a heavy, wet blanket with this feeling of nausea and imbalance. In fact, I would say in the last 10 years I have only had violent rotational vertigo 3 or 4 times. Instead it's been nauseating slow movement of the environment. I guess it wasn't a quick followup, but I wanted to let you know that the disease, for me, has migrated to a much different dizziness. When I mentioned this to my Otolaryngologist he tried to be understanding but admitted he only had a theory. That the repeated attacks have damaged the inner ear and that it is no longer playing a role in my symptoms. He said the dysequilibrium is my brain's inability to recognize center balance. He told me physical therapy is my only option. He's a surgeon and he said surgery will not help me at this stage of the disease.
