Hi all, I’m completely new to this. I haven’t had an official diagnosis of Meniere’s. My ENT specialist said my symptoms are exactly like menieres and my test results indicate menieres (the balance tests caused an attack). I also have tinnitus, ear fullness and currently minor hearing loss. However due to the fact that he didn’t detect fluctuating hearing loss he couldn’t give me the diagnosis. I think it is menieres, as my maternal grandmother had it too. Anyway, regardless of what it is, I have exactly the same symptoms. Mine is definitely worse when my hormone levels are low so I’m taking HRT to help combat the symptoms and I haven’t had a major attack since I’ve been on that (although it’s still not nice, I feel on the edge the whole time). I’m also off caffeine and have a low salt diet as recommended by the specialist. The biggest problem I’m having is using my iPad and phone. I’ve got blue light filters on them but I can’t use them for more than 10 mins at a time without everything starting to spin and me feeling awful. 1st world problem I know, but it it’s a bugger when you have to do shopping, search for holidays, do banking etc online and it means that I feel pretty crappy quite a lot of the time. Once I’ve spent a bit of time on screen in the day then it takes a while to wear off and the effect is cumulative so by the end of the day, multiple short periods on screen can mean that even glancing at a screen can cause dizziness and nausea. Is this common? Has anyone found a solution? Thanks in advance!
I don't have fluctuating hearing either, but when I started with the strong crises I was bothered by the screens after the attacks (during the "hangover"). Over time it passed, I don't think it's a Meniere's symptom but rather a consequence of the balance symptom failing and when looking at screens the information transmitted to the brain is wrong and we get dizzy or have vertigo.
Oh thanks, that’s good to hear that it passed. I’ve had this problem with screens since my symptoms started about 18 months ago. Hopefully it’ll wear off.
Hi, everybody! I notice having to avoid computer, phone, tv...Heaven help me, even my friends who "talk with their hands" can give me the spins. Has anyone noticed Sounds as a trigger? Music can make me feel like I'm on a trip down the drain . Happy day to you all!
Suddent loud sound like a bang cause short dizzy spell(probaby stress related) or loud ones like engines do trigger head spinning and ear pressure for me.
Thank you! Didn't notice this the last time(2 years ago) I had a flare. Didn't know there was a relationship between insomnia and flare ups, either. The list of things I don't know just keeps getting longer as I get older!
I have the exact same symptoms. The worst version of that is when i sit upright in front of a screen. It gives me tremendous vertigo after a short while that gets worse. I dont know exactly why that is. I had my very first meniere-vertigo attack when i was sitting working on the computer. I subsequently thought that this very first attack was such a shock that my brain made me avoid that situation. A psychosomatic reason. But right now, I think that screens, a stationary position and so on, confuses your brain that is trying to combine the information to balance yourself. And your visual and sensitory (?) information do not match what your vestibular organ registers. That may be the case in any situation, but a screen intensifies this. It is a terrible thing for me. I work on a computer. I have not found a solution other than working on the menieres itself and doing balance exercises. Also, constantly shifting, moving makes it a little bit better. But yeah, you are not alone with this.
