Hello Everybody. I am 57. A few months ago I never imagined I would be posting on a Meniere's forum. Here is my story briefly. On Jan 1 I was out walking and felt myself falling to the right. I corrected my self and sat down for a while. It passed and I was able to go on walking. One week later I was ill with covid - no hospital - it was fairly mild. By Jan 25 I was testing negative. On Feb 25 I suddenly heard a light hiss in my left ear. I went to see the doctor on feb 28 and was told I had earwax build up in both ears. It took about 5 weeks to clear the earwax. But I am left with the hiss in my left ear - its better since the ear wax came out but still significant. I can sleep and it's not too bad. But since the ear wax removal I have this slight dizzy feeling to varying degrees. It is more or less continual obviously when I am moving around. Nothing severe enough to stop me from getting around but it does not feel right. I had a hearing test and have some slight impairment in both ears. My hearing seems to me to be just fine. The audiologist said she noticed some signs of bubbling on the ear drum and suggested I go to the doctor. I saw the doctor yesterday - she said my ear drums are in good shape but she thinks I have Menieres and she has referred me to the ENT clinic. It will be 2 months before I can see them. I wonder if I do have Meniere's - I have read that a lot of people post covid are suffering these same symptoms as part of long covid and it may eventually clear. This is my hope. And if not - I suppose I am in for quite a ride.
Thanks - I have a friend who owns a health supplement store (vitamins etc) - I have just messaged him asking if he has any such product. I am maxing out on vitamin rich diet fruit leafy veg salmon etc - minimal junk. Figuring it will boost my immune system. I forgot to mention that 2 weeks after my covid cleared - I had an intense head cold lasting 3 days - blocked nose etc. During covid and this cold - I sneezed like never before - I mean incredibly powerful sneezes. 2 weeks later the tinnitus started. It seems such an odd coincidence that I had covid then this. It may well be a coincidence of course as I am the right age for Menieres. I never got vaccinated - something I will of course sorely regret if covid has left me with a long term condition.
It is UK NHS so you get what you are given. But from what I have read they pretty much don't know how to handle this illness so I guess I am on my own. It is mild at the moment - but I fear what it could become.
Thanks I appreciate your help. You have to understand I am so scared about this whole thing I am willing to try what you have suggested even without further investigation. If I had covid in mid Jan - and the covid and the cold I had soon after are responsible for my issues - it is 3 months advanced. The actual tinnitus started on Feb 25. I am seeing my friend on Monday - he has a shop nearby with all these products - and he can order in for me quickly enough. I never much believed in this type of product before because there was no condition to tackle - but I will certainly try. What about diet? I assume dairy products and carbs are out? No junk food obviously - low salt low sugar? So we are looking at fruit - cooked and raw veg - and fish with low mercury content - chicken breast maybe. Nuts? No tea no coffee? Jeez this is going to be tough.
Thanks again. At the moment I just have tinnitus in the left ear (like cassette tape hiss) and a slight dizzy feeling which I am aware of now and then. My hearing seems to be ok - I can hear birds singing etc - though the test found I had some slight impairment. I will hope for the best but take the precautions you recommend.
