It's happened to me a couple times now. My body has lost its salt and electrolytes, a painful experience. I actually drank too much water? How does one determine blood/potassium/electrolyte levels on a daily or hourly basis? Im asking since I assume most here are doing the no salt diet.
Hi Hickspanick, My very good doctor, specialist for kidneys, told me to drink one cup of water per hour. If your sweating very much of course you have to fill up electrolytes. He recommended half applejuice and half water or alcoholfree beer. I can't get enough potassium and magnesium with food, so I take supplements. I'm not on salt free diet, just not much salt, that's fine for me. But I don't eat processed food, and if I do, I drink an extra ration of water. Best wishes Lilja
The no salt diet is questionable to me. We need sodium. It is the most essential mineral for electrolyte balance. If you do not eat processed food or do not add salt to your food you are probably eating enough. I have no idea how to monitor mineral levels. A blood test revealed that I needed to take a magnesium supplement. My sodium level was fine I rarely add it to my meals.
