Hey Guys, Just as all of you, I have Meniere's Disease and doing my best to minimize the symptoms as much as possible. I have managed to get the vertigo attacks under control with the last one being in Nov 2021. However, I still have some annoying symptoms that are lingering and it's making me question whether or not I also have Eustachian Tube Dysfunction. The symptoms I am still struggling with and have a hard time minimizing are: tinnitus ear fullness/pressure some hearing loss Sensitivity to loud sounds (usually low pitch sounds) I've also noticed that when I hum, it sounds louder internally on the bad ear affected by MD. But I am able to "pop" my ear. So I'm questioning if it's ETD or just the MD adding those symptoms Thanks in advance!
Thanks for your input! Currently doing a modified version of the JOH (since not all supplements are available). I'll look into adding boosted antipathogenic treatment.
Very interesting dialogue. I, too, really think I could have a middle ear and inner ear thing going on. I specifically asked my Internist about this earlier this week (especially regarding a virus) and he also told me (even got out a diagram to make his point) that it couldn't be viral in my middle ear like that. JonBubo it sounds like your experience, and that of others, is to just stay the course with the antivirals, JOH, plus antipathogenic. I believe my middle ear is actually posing some of my greater issues right now with functional issues, banging on inner eardrum when relieving stomach gases, pressure changes with jaw movements/swallowing/valsalva type maneuvers. A month in on full AV and only slight improvement but praying some relief will eventually come if I stay the course with all the other aforementioned strategies. Nice to hear someone else thinks it could be viral affecting more than one location in our delicate ears.
Yes. I've been on Famciclovir 500 MG 3x/day for 1 month along with JOH protocol. I am at about 1 scoop total of Lauricidin (pellet Monolaurin) a day right now spread throughout the day.
The research I've read seems to have mixed feelings about Eustachian Tube Dysfunction being a part of the MD fullness OR an accompanying condition. Neurotologist visit Thursday didn't really yield any additional input that was helpful. I am trying a few dexamethasone injections along with a short course of prednisone along with my full dose Famicilovir, JOH, Lauricidin (Monolaurin), Magnesium, Betahistine, Vitamin B12. Don't know if the prednisone is a great idea since it seems to increase fluid retention and I don't take any diuretics...little uncertain there. Seeing some inner ear improvement after 5 weeks of full dose AV plus JOH but no improvement in what seems to be related Eustachian Tube/ear drum/middle ear fullness. Anyone have any observations or success stories regarding treatment for possible Eustachian Tube function issues related to their course of MD? I can easily exhale pressure through Eust. Tube providing an ease in pressure to try to open my middle ear, but it only lasts a few seconds and never opens all the way then slides back shut. Just wondering if staying on full JOH and longer full dose Antiviral is what others have found successful or othering things that may be helpful. Thanks to all for any input/thoughts/experiences.
Even though this isn't a new piece of research...I shared it with my Neurotolgist tonight at an appointment. Unfortunately, he doesn't seem to have that much information to shed any light on the subject it does seem to fit with the original post and may be helpful. I feel like my situation is tied up in this realm somewhere (at least it sure sounds like me except mine is more of an endolympahtic hydrops/cochlear hydrops without the Meniere's vertigo)...now just getting some more knowledgeable care providers AND continuing on with JOH and Antiviral care on my own in the meantime. Anyone have any experiences with treatment/providers at the University of Michigan, Cleveland Clinic, or Mayo Clinic related to CH or MD? My Neurotologist suggested any of these as potential good next steps. https://www.itmedicalteam.pl/articles/menieres-disease-with-patulous-eustachian-tubes.pdf
