I am sorry! Yet another question.
Should I limit my daughters salt to 1000 mg day?
I thought that was the right thing to do but is there a such thing as too little amount of salt? Do we need a certain amount?

    Thank you!!

    Hello Angel 555,
I just can tell you - I eat very sodium aware, yes, 1 g is the orientation borderline and I have the feeling that is good for me, also the potassium I take as tablets. It depends also on what you do for example, sports and sweating a lot.
As I eat not much, I could never reach a healthy potassium intake with my food.
You can find calculators on the internet.

Please allow me to talk about another aspect of MDisease, well, of every chronicle disease.
I am sure you want the best for your child, who is 17 or 18 years old, as I understood.
I also can relate very well to the thought: "if only I could have her disease instead". So it is very understandable that you try to do everything against your daughter's poor health condition.
Yes, you can support the young woman, also with the knowledge you read here or anywhere else.
But! she herself has to find her way into her grownup life, also under the conditions of MD.
You can't set her on a diet, restrict her intake of whatever (also the medication her doctor prescribed her) or get her to follow a regimen.
Please: don't incapacitate her. That might make her feel her even more miserable and will disturb your relationship.
That ist an advice from a very experienced Helicopter, whose Baby turns 27 today.
Greetings and best wishes from Lilja.

It's suggested that people with Menieres limit sodium to between 1.5 and 2g a day.

The body needs 500g of sodium, per day, to survive.

    Thank you you lija,

That’s a good point you make. She said just tonight, I don’t want to be treated as if I have a disability.
I just want her safe when outdoors and away from home.
because she hasn’t experienced an episode outside. I don’t think she realizes or knows what to expect and how frightening it may be.

    Correction

The body needs 500 mg of sodium per day to survive, not 500 g.

Definitely not less than 1000mg per day. Sodium is critical to many bodily functions. I think the recommended amount is 2200 mg per day. The problem is that the average North American diet gets four times that! I would aim for the 1500 - 2000mg per day where possible. And if I know that I am going to have something that is a little higher than I would like, I take a potassium supplement to offset the sodium (the two compete with each other).

Hi everyone. I'm a newbie here and I appreciate this resource. After losing some hearing in one ear and experiencing intermittent tinnitus and a full ear I am grappling with what is inevitably a diagnosis of Ménière's disease. There are so many possible palliatives, protocols, etc and I'm just trying to find the right regime for me. All of your suggestions so far, like this one above about salt intake, etc are part of the informed tapestry I'm trying to put together. Thanks for letting me be a part of this
