Hi everyone, I just returned from my ENT doctor with an astonishing result: no hearing loss. Better than age group.
    My Menière ear recovered.
They did the test twice because they could not believe.
That means that in six years odf MD the hair cells are not finally damaged.
Is there anyone with similar experiences ? I am aware that this does mit mean I am healed.

Well, that is very good news for you! My hearing in my bad ear used to fluctuate, but it gradually got worse, until it is essentially gone. Now my good ear fluctuates. I don't think there is going to be a happy ending to my story LOL

    Greetings from Canada! :)

Thank you, Donamo. I also have fluctuating hearing. So my ear teaches us; you can have many years of fluctuating hearing without final damage.
Please tell this to your second ear with my best wishes.
@June: My hearing loss was/is in the low frequencies. (Why do you ask?)

OK now you have to tell us what you’ve been eating lately. Something must have fixed it. Anti-inflammatory foods?

Sorry, Grizzler, there is nothing I can recommend.
(If I could, it would be Wiener Nougat by Fazer in Finland. I eat two a day.)
    Au contraire:
after several years without coffeine I added one mug of darjeeling and a bit of dark chocolate to my diet (Diabetes and Hydrops, histamine aware)
Painkillers IBU I eat quite a lot. They are anti inflammatory.
Nobody knows why after an accident my brainfog was gone and I felt much better with my balance.
The fullness of my Menière ear I treat with cooled stones. Helps within 30 minutes.
The hydrops part of Menière's Disease was explained to me with the picture of a cornfield: the ears not broken, but only
snapped, so that after a while they can return to their correct position.
Maybe the corn in my ears is just more resilient and flexible than other people's.
Maybe betahistine, 48 mg three times a day supports them. Magnesium and potassium, too.
Not having damaged hair cells today does not mean that I am protected against being deaf tomorrow.
    Menière's Disease is not predictable.

    Wishing all the best
    Lilja

    That’s great news!
My hearing flactuates and even at its worse I can say I can hear on a moderate level.
After a gentamicin shot last year I was able to hear perfectly well for over a month. How strange.
    Good luck Lilja

In all of the reading I've done on the topic, I've definitely read a number of stories like yours. People who were almost deaf in one ear and then having it come back after years. One thing that's consistent is that the return of hearing seemed to come back after a wide range of treatments.

Even for myself, a month ago I experienced a 15db improvement in my hearing at 250Hz bringing it back into the low end of normal range. I had another test a week ago and it remains the same. I have flat hearing loss in the 40-45db range with greater drop-off to 60db in higher frequencies.

Long may your good hearing continue!

Sometimes people are treated with diuretics and I guess tea and dark chocolate will have a diuretic effect. You said you are taking potassium. Perhaps the diuretic effect of the tea and dark chocolate you recently introduced is increasing the turnover of fluids and that is now bringing more potassium into your endolymph. The endolymph is higher in potassium and lower in sodium, and the reverse is true for the perilymph.

I wonder if you would say a bit more about your accident? Was your head involved? If so, in which direction was it impacted?

Thank you for sharing your positive story it's very hopeful.

    Hello Lilja,

    that is very good news!
So do you take 48 mg Betahistin three times a day or just 48 mg per day ?

After many years of decided hearing loss one day I woke up a) feeling great like I hadn't felt in years & b) I could hear fine & had to turn the volume down on everything... of course I didn't have a hearing test at the time so don't know exactly how much it had improved but it appeared to me like I had full hearing in both ears, unfortunately it only lasted for about nine hours then I reverted back to not being able to hear very well & it has never happened to me again all these years later.

For those where hearing came back, even if temporarily, what did your hearing curve look like? Eg. Flat, upward slopping etc.

Unfortunately I can't answer that question as it is information that was never passed onto me when I had hearing tests.

good for you! It's encouraging for me and I am really happy for you, thanks for sharing. I guess my MD got severe in the last 1-2 years but was coming on intermittantly for about 5 years. Got loud tinittus initially before the hearing dropped out in the affected ear which is pretty deaf still. If mine ever comes back I will never take it for granted again! I hope mine will return but now I am just happy to have the vertigo under control using the john of ohio protocol. It's only been 2-3 months so I am being patient. I will continue to work at it and post to let everyone know.
