Dr. R. Mark Wiet, MD Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital Suite 424 Winfield, IL 60190 (Western suburb of Chicago) Antiviral IL (Just an FYI: My acute symptoms had subsided by the time I saw Dr. Wiet, so currently, I am not taking a prescription antiviral. I told him I was taking L-Lysine 1000 mg/day and Lemon Bioflavanoids 700 mg/day and he was fine with that since so far, so good. I did ask what he thought about antivirals like Acyclovir, and Dr. Wiet said he did prescribe them for some patients who seemed to be helped by them. He also gave me information on where I could get Betahistine if I wanted to try it. Dr. Wiet is quite knowledgeable about Menier's and tinnitus and is open to discussing various treatment options. His specialty: Otology, Neurotology and Lateral Skull Base Surgery.)
Kate2008 does the L-Lystine help? I haven't read anything on using that for menieres and am looking to try different things to at least lessen the affects if not rid myself of it.
Hi, The L-Lysine and Lemon Bioflavanoids are the first couple of items in John of Ohio's regime. I think they are helping, but it is hard to say for certain because my acute symptoms had already subsided when I started taking them regularly. It is hard to measure prevention, but I have not had any further acute episodes (vertigo, hearing loss in left ear) since September, so I will keep on taking these two supplements. I use SuperLysine by Quantum Health because I can swallow their pills. The first brand I got were horse-pill sized and I just couldn't get them down. The "serving size" is 3 per day, but I take 2 of those and 1 of the Lemon Bioflavanoids (it's in a capsule I can swallow). Hope this helps. Kate
Thank you Kate2008 I appreciate you taking the time to reply. I am currently going through a bout of this dreaded disease. I guess I will have to check with my dr to be sure there are no contradictions in me taking these supplements. The dr I am seeing now is new to me and she changed up the doses of meds that my prior dr had me on by reducing the dosage. And she wont prescribe any anti anxiety meds to help when my menieres is active .. Not sure what she will think about supplements as most things I have asked about she seems to be against. Have to give her thought processes a chance though ...
Dr. M. Jennifer Derebery It seems she has worked in Oregon before maybe? But the largest website that comes up is for "The House Institute Foundation" in Los Angeles, CA
