Would steroidals hinder the long-term healing of nerves?

Just did telemedicine with an ENT today, who prescribed antivirals and steroid treatment.

One of the most basic things about steroids is it lowers inflammation, but the downside of that is that it hampers long-term healing. Certainly within an orthopaedic context.

So if my nerves are damaged, wouldn't steroids just give me short-term relief, but hamper long-term regeneration of the nerve ?(to the extent that a nerve can regenerate, which is not much but not nothing either for cranial nerves)

The doctor said the antiviral and the steroid potentiate each other, like they work eve better together in terms of relieving dizziness.

I'm just not so sure. I know for a fact from doing Regenexx that steroids hamper healing. Most of my research says it's also true for nerves, but there are also a couple case-reports coming up where steroids significantly helped healing for damaged nerves.

From what I understand, steroids are generally short term. I just finished a round of them and it has helped me. I feel I got a “reset” while I work on dietary changes and alternative therapies. I’m curious if your Dr explained why he chose both. Does he think your MD is viral? I’ve found that it’s important to do as much research on our own as possible as there are so many things that work for some and not for others. I understand your hesitation in steroids. I felt the same way but as it was only temporary, I am grateful for the reprieve.

This doctor said my issue was recurring vestibular neuritis. In that case the issue is herpesviridae attacking the vestibular nerve.
