I've been taking Topiramate for a while and it stopped my ear fullness. My doctor said it worked amazingly for early stage patients with low-frequency hearing loss. I've also read a post about Van Gogh having MD not epilepsy, making me thinking about the relation of the two syndromes. Van Gogh had Menière's disease and not epilepsy - PubMed Anyone with similar experiences?
I have taken Dilantin (Phenytoin) for 26 years. Doctor put me on it after 2 seizures in 98'. Nothing since, more of a maintenance thing. I was diagnosed with MD 8 yrs ago. I will be seeing a Neurologist to check and see about weaning off. Definitely will ask about the Topiramate. Thanks for sharing and have a blessed day!
@sirenblood - what dose of Topiramate are you on please and do you feel it has helped your MD symptoms. you mentioned that it has reduced the ear fullness, so that has to be a good thing right?
That’s sounds great for ear fullness which bothers me most but how long do you have to stay on Topiramate ?
Here is an interesting connection. The Keto diet was first used, and still is, to treat epilepsy in children. It was found to be very effective and eventually (years) the people could go off the diet and be free of epilepsy. As epilepsy drugs became available, it went out of fashion, but not completely. I think it is coming back as a treatment and I think I read John Hopkins never stopped using it as a treatment. I have been eating Keto now for 30 days and have seen a remarkable improvement, especially in my hearing and also some improvement in fullness and tinnitus. I am actually quite amazed at the improvement. Even my bad, dead ear is showing signs of life.
