Valtrex (valacyclovir) side effects? Short term increase in heart rate?

Just curious how other people have reacted to valtrex. I was mostly recovered from my last bout of recurring vestibular neuritis, but I had a bad night where I thought maybe I was going to get another attack and started taking the valtrex.

Mostly no side effects, but it does raise my heart rate (and I'm assuming blood pressure), which then makes me nervous, the same way that eating salty food and caffeine does to me. Maybe it quite litetrally is like eating salt? For indeed it is eating an entire gram of a chemical which from what I've researched is water soluble. Like with salt and/or carbs and caffeine, the reaction goes away in like 2 hours.

Anybody ever get this symptom or symptoms like it? Was acyclovir any better?

Been taking 3 grams of valacyclovir daily for 5 years with zero side effects.
Might be something else causing your issues.

Pa Cowboy, I am currently taking 1g of Valacyclovir daily, but I had a bad attack in December a year to the day from my last bad one. I have decided to take 2g a day just to see how I feel. Were you ever on just 1g and then upped it to 3g because of a "breakthrough' episode, or have you been on 3g the whole time you have been taking it without incident? Thanks!

I am also curious about those taking Lysine. Have you ever cut down your dosage and then had an episode? I wonder if your body can get used to either Valacyclovir or Lysine.

Always been on 3 gram per day. The results have been 100% effective with no problems and I will never give it up.

Thanks, PaCowboy. I decided to go ahead and take 2g a day and see how it goes. I took 3g a day for 3 weeks when it was first prescribed, and had zero side effects, so why not 2g a day just to see.

I was doing JOH for a couple of months with 3000mg of lysine. I had a vertigo attack near the end of 2024 and had to quit all my pills due to nausea. I did not resume the lysine and have had no problems since. I'm actually feeling great but I do have to watch my salt and sugar intake. I'm thinking my meniere's must not be viral in nature.
