I was wondering if anyone who's tried Sertraline can provide any encouragement/advice. How long did it take before it worked? Has it worked for vertigo? I remember reading that someone on the forum has had success with a SSRI or SSNI, but all I remember was that his cake was a success, and I can't remember the name of the medication. Thanks!
I am on Bupropion and Trazadone. Was on Amitryptaline, but that wasn’t working for depression. The two meds I’m now on have helped tremendously with depression/anxiety. Not sure if they help with vertigo as I have been vertigo free since laby in 2013. Now just going deaf in remaining ear that has hearing—pretty depressing. Best of luck!
I went almost a year without a serious episode (brief vertigo in Sept 2024), and four days after joining the Forum in December 2024, I had my first bad attack in a year - to the day. I have decided to try Sertraline because it sounds promising. My GP said that I can also continue to take Ativan at the low dose once in a while if needed, so that's a nice psychological security blanket. I know that the Sertraline takes some time to work, so I'm going to try to be patient. At first I was hesitant, but the way I look at it is this: if it has helped even one person (which clearly from this forum and published research, it has), then I'm going to try it. If the first doctor I saw in 2022 who diagnosed MD had said to try it, I would have jumped on it, so I think I need to give it a go now.
It helped me, at the very least, to reduce the stress and psychological impact of the disease. Good luck, I hope it works. Don't forget in a year to comment if you noticed something positive or not for other colleagues on the forum.
Thanks, IvanNew. To me, the psychological impact has been substantial. Even though the actual vertigo attacks have been less frequent than 2 1/2 years ago, I still don't feel confident in certain situations. The Ativan has worked wonders, but that's not sustainable long term. I picked up the Rx on Saturday, but I haven't started yet. I will definitely post about how I feel - everyone on here has been my lifeline, and I truly appreciate it.
