Hello, Two years ago I had a reaction to Cipro eye drops that caused severe hearing loss in my good/right ear. Several round of steroids and antibiotics didn't fix the issue, so the doctor recommended hyperbaric oxygen therapy. The operator transitioned me too quickly and caused barotrauma to my good/right ear. Since then I have had severe hearing fluctuations of 40-50 decibels. My ENT suspects Meniere's or cochlear hydrops. I've gone to several audiologists and hearing aid fit specialists and they have all said they don't know how to program hearing aids for my situation with such extreme fluctuations. I had one Oticon hearing aid for my left ear for the past 20 years and the app only allows the user/patient to adjust volume by 10 decibels. The hearing loss in that ear has been fairly stable, so it wasn't a problem in the past. Also, this situation has affected my pitch perception to the point where is it very difficult/impossible to sing in tune. I'm in the market for a new set of hearing aids, but I want to make sure I get the right make/model/brand for my situation. Most of the hearing aids places in my area push Oticon. I have heard Widex is best for music? Which brand has the most programs available? Which app allows the user to adjust each ear separately? Anyone out here with fluctuating hearing loss and/or pitch issues and they love their hearing aids? Thank you in advance for your suggestions!
I have 2 Phonak hearing aids of different strengths with a total of 5 programs. I use them to try to cover my fluctuating hearing ability. For me, the Phonak hearing aids were the best, but everyone hears differently. You need to try them out and find a good audiologist who understands your situation.
