    Hi everyone,
I was diagnosed with Ménière’s disease and Minor’s syndrome in both ears. Four months ago I had my first surgery: endolymphatic sac drainage (for Ménière’s) together with reconstruction surgery for Minor’s syndrome.

Since the operation, things have been very hard. My symptoms of ear fullness/blocked ear, muffled hearing, and autophony have actually become worse than before the surgery. The sensation of “ovattamento” (muffled, closed ear) is extremely disabling.

I’ve read that recovery can sometimes take 4 to 6 months, so I’m hoping things will improve soon. But right now it’s very difficult — I can’t work, go out, or live a normal life.

Has anyone else gone through this after surgery?
Any advice or experiences would really help me.

    Thank you

I'm so sorry that you are struggling, but things will get better. I have not had any surgery, but look through the threads and you will see some great advice from people who have.

I hope you feel better soon!

Thank you very much for your reply and your comforting words. I hope that someone who has undergone the same surgery will also respond here, so I can understand if they experienced the same symptoms and how they overcame them.
    Thanks!
    Bye bye

I haven’t had the exact same surgery, but from what I’ve read and seen others share here, it’s not unusual for symptoms like ear fullness, muffled hearing, and even worsening sensations to linger for several months after endolymphatic sac procedures, especially when combined with reconstruction for Minor’s syndrome since your ears are adjusting to two different interventions at once. Some people mentioned things actually felt worse before they started to improve, with changes becoming more noticeable around the 5–6 month mark, though recovery timelines can vary a lot. It might help to focus on small day-to-day changes rather than expecting big improvements right away, and hopefully someone who has been through both surgeries will share their experience so you can compare.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and the information you’ve come across. It really helps to know that these symptoms can be normal and that it may take some time before improvements show. I’ll try to be patient and focus on the small day-to-day changes, as you suggested. I truly appreciate your support!
