Has anybody on this forum experienced
Remission? If so, do all the symptoms
Go away? As if before you had mm? And
How long did you have it before it went into
Remission , and how long did
You remain in remission? Sorry for
All the questions. My symptoms of ear fullness
Have subsided still get it but not as bad
Or as long as well as the dizziness for about a
Month now but not completely. I used to
    Have symptoms 24/7

I was in "remission" for about 10 years -- no symptoms at all - then it came back with a vengeance.... I did just get a hearing test where there was a bit of improvement since March so that is encouraging. So idk if it ever goes away or it just hides...

Nicky did all your symptoms go away? Mine
Are just a lot less (dizziness and ear fullness)
I wonder if that is remission , or would remission
Be completely gone? Wow 16 years that's
Amazing!! Did you go off your diet and meds
    During that time?

I've been in remission in my left ear for over 20 years, except for residual permanent hearing loss. My ENT believes my right side has now burned out as well, though I was able to save my hearing on that side.

I am either in remission or my trigger avoidance has worked. I have been so well since 2009 that I just don't eat or drink the items that used to cause all the problems. I don't take the chance because why try and find out if I have the same triggers. I would rather stay well. I do occasionally miss alcohol though. I haven't had a drink for 10 years.

Just before I became well again I had a different type of vertigo, more like up and over as opposed to rotational. I think it was the vertigo's last salvo as it said goodbye burning out the remaining hearing in my left ear.

I didn't know that one ear could go into
    Remission , considering that I haven't
Been watching my diet my only symptom
Is slight fullness, in the beginning whatever
I ate or didnt eat didn't help
Me at all. This is such a strange disease
I never know what going to be.

I have just rejoined this board after a "remission" of 3 wonderful years. During my remission my symptoms varied from perfectly fine - no fullness, tinnitus, great hearing and NO Vertigo, to fullness for a day or two which would then subside. I never had the same tolerance of motion-things that I did before Meniere's even during remission.

After undergoing a period of stress, peri-menopause and lack of sleep, I have rejoined the Meniere's world.

Everyday of those 3 years I was thankful that I got a break from the nightmare of this condition. Hope I can get back there again.

Sounds like you might be headed for a remission!!

My advice would be to always be mindful of your triggers and never let your guard down - that is how I think I maintained my remission as long as I did.

I've been in remission in my left ear since 1974 and I've been in remission in my right ear since 1994. By remission I mean no fullness and no vertigo. I still have tinnitus and profound hearing loss in both ears. Bilateral cochlear implants have restored my hearing to low normal levels.

    Best regards,

    Jim

Akjim , does the cochlear implants make your
Hearing normal as before? I listened to a
Video of what the cochlear plant sounds
Like and it sounded robotic but patients
Seem so happy with that. After my thinking
I was in remission I got a bad dizzy spell
    With severe vomitting not rotational
    Vertigo
    But a bobble head like dizziness . I don't
Know how else to explain but without any ear symptoms I did
Some stupid maneuver that I shouldn't
Have tried . So I'm not sure if this is remission
My endocrinologist believes a virus may
Have suddenly attacked my thyroid and caused inflamation
Which affected my ear as well, she thinks
It's possible once my thyroid issue is resolved
The ear may be as well. All I can do is hope
She is running test on me.

    Hi Lisa,

I am extremely happy with my cochlear implants (CIs). Initially, they sounded robotic and everyone sounded like Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck. Over time and with new mappings the sound improved and became very normal for me. The CIs got rid of the distortion and recruitment and markedly improved my tinnitus. My hearing went from over 120 dB down to around 18 dB down (considered low normal hearing range). I can enjoy music again and I can hear my wife's beautiful southern accent again. They aren't perfect, but they are close enough to perfect for me.

    Best regards,

    Jim

Everything but a slight but of tinnitus went away - no vertigo attacks -- no fullness in the ear - no fatigue or brain fog..... Nothing -felt 100% great. No idea why it came back - i wasn't doing anything differently.

Hi Nickyschick, I went into remission a few years ago from tinnitus, this was before the vertigo started to attack me, however the tinnitus was super bad, it was low in sound and I lost my hearing to low sounds where even hearing aides did not help too much, then I saw a chiropractor and the tinnitus left and the hearing came back and I thought I wasted money buying hearing aides, and then for no reason after two years (I guess it was a remission) tinnitus came back, hearing went down, went to same chiropractor several times and that time it didn't work. I started the acyclovir in July of this year, and I believe it was starting to work for both vertigo and definitely hearing when I came down with a cold and got an ear infection and my ear drum broke, I am finally getting better, and besides acyclovir and JOH I am stopping what could be trigger's for me, mainly coffee,

BUT oh that remission was nice when it lasted! I too did not feel like I was doing anything different when it came back!

I was diagnosed with meniers back in 2003. I had episodes off and on for 2-3 years. Then it apparently went into remission. Now here it is 2025 and I got up yesterday with the full feeling ear and reduced hearing and that funny "spacey" feeling in your head. This is the first time in over 20 years I've had these symptoms.

Yikes! Can you think of anything that might have triggered it?
