Being that I am a big guy (6’5” and was 260+ now 230+) I have been taking 3000 of Lysine. I was also taking 3 grams of Valacyclovir for about two months to really kickstart things. I have backed down to 2 grams a day. I have noticed that ringing has decreased and hearing is doing better. If this is as good as it gets I will be more than happy.

I have been incredibly blessed! I started it in July and broke into the clear mid September. Have not had any vertigo since then in spite of having salt. (I generally try to stay low salt but being that I live “on the road” I can’t always pick my meals. The hearing improvement has been slow over these months, but I think the tinnitus has slowly diminished as well. At this point I plan on staying on this plan of JOH and Valacyclovir forever. If it means I can keep my job I am all for it.

I saw it as attacking the same problem from two sides. That’s why I am doing both.

Yup, I took Valacyclovir and Lysine together for months after getting better. Then slowly eliminated the Lysine with no problems. It was scary to stop the lysine cause you never know what's giving the good results.

Thanks for this information. I am almost 60 but had this earringing 16 years ago. I had acquired shingles while looking after an elderly parent. This, in part, brought on the ear ringing. But I also had a lot of mercury fillings, and so did the Andy Cutler protocol for mercury chelation with DMSA. But I also took these anti-virals. I did a Hulda Clarke cleanse. I realize that taking the anti-virals helped, as did the metal chelation protocol. I took favioids too, and digestive enzymes and Betaine HCL. I think parasites, viruses, toxins and heavy metals of any kind create this ear ringing. Changing the terrain through detoxification and deworming works. Dr. Sebi's herbs, and Gerson Juicing and coffee enemas, Hulda Clarke's herbal deworming protocol, and taking dewormers like Fenbedazol and Praziquantel all remove these things. All in phases. I had to recently remove mercury root canals and am fighting the same fight again. Cleansing on all these levels changes the terrain of your lymph and gut. Hope this helps.

For the past two months I have been battling a MD attack. At first started on 40mg Prednisone for 2 days then slow taper like I usually do. Was doing well with most symptoms gone after two weeks and then at 5mg all hell broke loose and I was right back where I started with complete hearing loss in right ear and balance issues (no severe vertigo). Went back on 40mg Pred for 5 days and tapered very slowly. I was off Prednisone after taper for 5 days and suddenly relapsed again and was at square one. This time I started Acyclovir, 3grams per day. On day 2 I was feeling better, on day 3 I am nearly completely symptom free. I cannot believe how fast it worked. I am usually recovering slowly for months. There were some signs that my MD was caused by a virus (fever blisters inside my lips, surging MD symptoms in evening, relapses, original activation after Eustachian Tube expansion surgery), so I thought I would give it a try and glad I did. After 3-1/2 years of this hell I think I've found my solution. I plan to taper to 2 grams per day in a few weeks and eventually a 1g per day maintenance dose. Prednisone did help reduce inflammation and got me back to normal for the first 3 attacks, but was not getting it done on the 4th attack. I think it is better to address the underlying problem that caused the inflammation in the first place. My hearing is I would say 90-95% back and I am still a bit dizzy at times but hoping that goes away as well. Vestibular exercises really help with that.

Another successful antiviral story! Great news and hope you have continued success.

Just my thoughts with no scientific proof.
Be careful going back to 1 gram per day as a maintenance dose, there have been some folks that have a relapse as they taper down. Why decrease the amount when it has been working?
Even though I've been "cured" for 6+ years I continue taking 3 grams/day.

Thanks for the info/feedback. I would like to take as little as possible. 1g/day may or may not be enough. I had a relapse tapering off Prednisone too quickly and that was not fun. I plan to take it slow and see how it goes each step of the way. Perhaps reduce by 1/2g every few weeks. I am also going to take Lysine (starting today). I've read that the combo is more effective.

I am on day 6 of taking 3g/day of Valacyclovir. Yesterday (day 5) my hearing and balance were both excellent. I would estimate at least 90% back to baseline (I had only some minor high frequency loss and tinnitus due to age/occupation). This is at least 2x to 3x as fast and effective compared to Prednisone, and so far no side effects other than a slight medicine taste in the morning. My diet remains low sodium/sugar/caffeine/alcohol/gluten as before. I'll keep you all posted, but so far this has been a huge game changer for me.
