New guy here. 65 yo, dealing with MD for 4 years, had 2 major attacks (severe vertigo, vomit, total hearing loss right ear) and 2 minor attacks (some vertigo, some hearing loss, no vomit), and a few very minor issues. Of these 4 attacks, 3 of them were when I visited Ojai CA (I live in Boulder CO). Over these 4 years I also visited Northern CA (Sebastopol) many times and also Florida keys and Michigan with absolutely no issues. On the 3 times I visited Ojai, I got an attack. My diet did not change significantly during these trips (I follow the usual regimen). Ventura County where Ojai is located has lots of citrus groves, and they spray them in late fall and early summer. That's when I was there. My only other triggers are the usual suspects (sodium, alcohol, sugar) and most importantly wildfire smoke. Anyone else have environmental triggers like this, or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Well, I sure don't know, but I have a friend who has been suffering with dizziness. We don't think he has Meniere's but, in a similarity with your thoughts, he is fine at home and other sites, but gets dizzy at the golf courses. It is not from swinging a golf club or other activity because it can happen as soon as he gets there.

He feels that it is the chemicals that golf courses spray on their turf. I think he said it was better in drier less kempt courses or sections of courses.

So, I think your theory is at least possible and worthy of further exploration.

I was diagnosed with MD decades ago. Had the ringing, dizziness and vomiting off and on for years.
I was told to cut out salt which I did. It helped a little.
About ten years ago I flew to Florida to visit a friend and the ringing was really bad when I landed. Then I spent the day on a boat in the sun and that night it was gone.
After that I started taking vitamin D 400iu once a day. Available everywhere.
It actually worked but once in a while Id still get the ringing.
Then about two years ago I started eating those cups of chobani yogurt 5 or 6 days a week.
I would eat salty foods and no ringing.
Recently I ate some very salty foods and didnt eat the yogurt for a couple days and I could tell the ringing was coming back.
Vitamin D and probiotics yogurt works for me. Thats a fact

Vitamin D was 100% it for me! Got my vitamin D under control and no more attacks. I noticed that I wasn't hydrating correctly back before my Meniere's started. I even went to my doctor twice and told her that I would get dehydrated frequently even though I was drinking a ton of water. She did nothing. A year later, four doctors later, and many vertigo attacks later I myself discovered the link between vitamin D and hydration. All the doctors said to do was take Triamterene and limit salt, caffeine, and alcohol. Since Vitamin D indirectly influences your hydration it's not the first thing that a doctor would think of. But ask yourself this, what do caffeine, alcohol, and salt all have in common.... Yep, dehydration. Go check your vitamin D. You can do this without a doctor at a local lab. If that's not it, check for other reasons your body may not be hydrating properly. I now eat and drink anything I want with no issues (although my hearing has not fully healed).

    Hi Michael
Good to hear you are making progress and it is always lovely to hear of a positive story & outcome
I am very interested in your findings. Would you mind sharing what Vit D supplements you take and your daily dosage and how much water you pair that with?
Do you still take water pills?
    thanks

ps @Sox115 also sounds good / interesting re chobani yogurt - don't suppose you know where I can buy this in the UK do you?

I take 2000 IU's of vitamin D3 with Breakfast and 2000 IU's of D3 with lunch. Total of 4000 IU's per day for me but I would think it's important to know what your individual level of vitamin D is through a blood test and then that would drive how much vitamin D to take. It's my understanding that taking with food, especially fat, is best for vitamin D absorption so I always take with a meal. I also try to get a few minutes of sunshine whenever possible without sunscreen. My water intake has dropped from well over 100 ounces per day down (often was over 128 ounces per day) to around 80 ounces per day and I no longer thirst for water like I used to. I do try to space my water intake evenly throughout the day. I no longer take any water pills or Betahistane.
