Hello and I sure do understand what you were talking about and where you’re coming from I’ve just stopped taking the prednisone for a severe attack that are very similar in ranges with yours three attacks a year within three months prednisone for three weeks and the prednisone backlash when you stop taking it does awful things to your body or at least it did mine. That’s why I’m here today to try to join support group to work through cleansing the toxicity of the prednisone out of my body.
I came across this thread as I support Meniere's sufferers through a couple of large Facebook groups and also write about Meniere's (including interviewing researchers) on Substack. I was asked by a member of my community to write about the JOH regime so my initial searches brought me here. From reading this thread it seems the regime can be reduced to Lysine on the basis that the cause is thought to be a herpes viral infection, and that Lysine is thought to treat this infection. Is there good quality evidence to support the core ideas here? i.e. That most Meniere's is caused by herpes infection and that Lysine deals with such infections?
In dentistry the doctor I worked for regularly dispensed L-Lysine for oral herpetic lesions and had excellent results with compliance. The suppression of the lesions and severity showed encouraging improvement in the patient and overall health as well. There are studies through the American Dental Society that are case studied with blind studies accompanying them which are important to validate their research. L-lysine is widely available OTC and inexpensive too. We found that taken two to three times a day for ten days at 500-1,000 mg for five to ten days (depending upon the severity and morbidity of the patient and their prescriptions) would suppress their oral lesions and reduce the amount of pain quickly and was tolerated well by most all patients. My doctor practiced this for fifty-five years with verifiable results.
Thank you for posting and yes l-lysine could help with herpetic outbreaks. Tha American Dental Society has researched the use of the easily available OTC supplement and has found that it reduces the pain and severity of oral herpetic outbreaks and improves overall health for patients. My dentist I worked for regularly dispensed and verified that with patient compliance in use and other medical conditions improved significantly. He practiced for 55 years with great success.
I've watched the threads on this for several years and I have only ever seen anecdotal evidence discussed (like the above). Some literature in the past decade has really tried to dive into the topic, but only found weak correlations with CMV. The JOH regimen may work for other reasons - it is a kitchen sink approach (some ingredients have mild vasodilatory properties), or due to confounding lifestyle changes that come with it, or the placebo effect.
My the way I have started on Lysine and it seems to have helped with my dizziness and vertigo. Early days yet but i am hopeful.
