I developed Meniere's in my right ear at what I was told was an early age - in my late 20's. I suffered horribly with ringing, vertigo, dry heaves for hours and days, no balance, a spinning world, so many life changes. Three small children to care for and a full-time job. Can't even remember the number of doctors; I think there were five surgeries. The last surgery they cut the balance nerve behind my ear. After years of the suffering, this seemed to alleviate the worst of it, but of course, I have almost total deafness in my right ear and my balance is quite bad. I've fallen countless times, even though I'm particularly careful. And the older I get, I've found that I now break. Used to be fearless - skiing, trail biking, hiking - now I'm careful when just walking. Three weeks ago, out of the blue, my hearing in my "good" ear diminished badly, I'm deep in a well, some sounds amplified (dogs barking HURTS), can't hear my husband standing next to me. No balance, vertigo, throwing up, can't walk, certainly can't drive. Hearing tests showed my "bad ear" had not changed (still 95% deaf there), but hearing in my "good ear" had dropped significantly. Significantly as I hear it means I can't hear much of anything! Odds of developing Meniere's in the second ear are supposed to be slim to none, but it's happened. Lucky me. Today I am going for my third steroid injection directly into my eardrum. I've been taking prednisone, water pills, anti-nausea pills. The severe vertigo, spinning world and nausea have lessened but I can't hear worth a darn. The constant "white noise" for lack of a better way to describe it, is just always there. I'm absolutely praying that these injections and medications help to restore some hearing. Even getting rid of the constant noise in my head would be so very welcome. I'm trying very hard to remain positive and continuing to pray my hearing returns, but I have to admit to feeling awfully darn sorry for myself lately. I know the hell I went through the first time for so many years; I just can't believe it's happening again.

    Hi there,

Have you tried antivirals? If not, read this paper by Dr. Gacek and take it to your doctor and try it out. It has worked for many of us.

I am so sorry this is happening. I pray that your hearing comes back and this is just a temporary set back. Stay strong and know that we are there for you.
