I have a friend whose son has been having these "freezing" episodes where her son will get some tingling that moves through his body and then stop moving, feel paralyzed, and either stay in place, or slowly land on the floor. It can last a few minutes or as long as an hour. To me they sound somewhat similar to a drop attack. He is fully conscious and has no change in vitals. Years ago, when they first started, the neurologists and psychiatrists diagnosed him with Conversion Disorder which is an anxiety-based psychiatrist disorder. But a doctor recently suggested to my friend that perhaps these episodes could be a Migraine Variant. Some of you have mentioned you have "drop attacks" with your MAV.

For those of you who experience the drop-attack form of MAV, is there a specific name for those? Have you ever heard the term Basilar Type Migraine which my friend read about and says it sort of describes the freezing episodes. Do you ever feel tingling along with the drop attack? And when you are having one of these attacks, do you always just fall to the floor, or do you sometimes remain in place, just feel like you can't move? Have you had any diagnostic tests done to confirm your diagnosis? Her son's previous EEG's and MRI's have been clear.

    Thanks in advance!

I have migraine variant and I also have drop attacks. Drop attacks are sudden and only last seconds really. You lose your ability to balance and go down pretty forcefully. Saying that his attack lasts seconds to an hour is more reminiscent of a migraine aura. Don't have to have headaches to have migraines.
