Does anyone let anxiety about traveling, even short trips, keep them from going places? I dread getting in a car so much, even if I medicate myself, I still can't enjoy it. In order to get over it I would have to be so sedated I wouldn't know where I was & that would not be any fun. I thought I would finally get over it but I seem to get worse. I never want to leave home again. Thanks.
Have you thought about counseling to help you with the anxiety? Might be a good choice for you. Good luck.
Thanks for your reply & that is a good suggestion. I'm pretty sure the only thing that could remove my anxiety is not to have MM.
I just have the 'necessary meds/supplies I need and that gives me 'security'. Don't let this condition keep you from 'living'. Depression/anxiety go along with it and you can 'give in' to it or fight it with all you have! I take with me the Xanax, Valium, Zofran and not am taking Paxil--trying to deal with depression that has come due to this condition. Not sure I'll continue it, but am trying. I carry a ziploc bag and in it, 2 paper towels! Being a woman helps as you can carry a purse. I've never used any of the above mentioned things out--but the Meclizine and the Zofran and Xanax. Not due to vertigo, but anxiety about a situation or etc. And nausea that may come due to dizziness. I don't get vertigo anymore--due to having the shunt insertion. I have dizziness, head pressure, nausea that comes and goes and sensitivity to noises, bright lit places, visual disturbances. Still, getting out and getting my mind focused on other things make it seem better--for awhile. Walking is good and any type of exercise--doesn't have to be a 'workout', just keeping the body moving. Hope this helps. Be prepared---and keep on going!
Yanksgirl did your dizziness, head pressure, nausea that comes and goes and sensitivity to noises, bright lit places, visual disturbances get worse after the shunt surgery? and those symptoms do sound like MAV.
Verti, how long have you had MM? How often do you get vertigo? Does it come in clusters, and then vertigo-free for some time? Do you get any warning?
Yes, they seem to have gotten worse. But I did have them before too. I was told I had 'silent Migraine syndrome' too--really that is another word for MAV I think. Tried a migraine med and that didn't help at all. The symptoms really do resemble what I used to get with migraines--except there is 'no pain', just the discomfort caused by the above symptoms. I remember the migraine pain was awful, but when it was over --it was 'over'. This really never ends. Just gets a bit better at times but is always present.
AnneT, I was diagnosed with MM about 17 yrs ago but had tinnitus before that. I am bilateral. My balance is gone. My episodes are different now than when first diagnosed. It's hard to describe them, they come on suddenly, no warning. Impossible to walk without holding to something, vision impaired, can't sit in a chair that doesn't have arm support or I will fall. My face/ears feel full, nausea. Riding in car out of the question. These episodes sometimes last 5 days or longer. I am never completely free of MM symptoms. It's always something. Thanks for your replies.
Uuugh that sounds nasty. I don't blame you for being anxious to travel. I'll be travelling for a few days this weekend. I'm I. The middle of dr bucholzs headache elimination diet but being at my parents, it's all about the food. I'm trying to decide how strict to be with my food, since I still don't really know all my high risk foods.
Jaypr and I both had great success with following the recommendations in that book. Jaypr's success lasted, mine did not, but it was good for a while! I followed it strictly.
