I'm interested in the Gacek protocol where prescribe you antivirals. But from what I understand, doctors are very reluctant to send people out for herpes and other virus testing. Are there any doctors willing to send people out for testing? There is a decent chance my symptoms are coming from a low grade lyme disease
No, testing for a herpes or other related viral infections is not very successful. There can be negative results, but a herpes viral infection is present. In a greater number of cases, the virus causing Meniere's symptom simply cannot be detected by the viral presence test. Viruses can be immunologically sneaky, hard to accurately detect. --John of Ohio
Ok, but can't adenoviruses also infect nerves? This study: Incidence of virus infection as a cause of Meniere's disease or endolymphatic hydrops assessed by electrocochleography - PubMed Mentions adenovirus. Surely it's possible the people not responding to valtrex may be being affected by adenovirus rather than herpesviridae? Shouldn't they test for that?
When I went to the ER the day of my first episode, my MONO test was high showing a high viral load. I also have EBV. I started valtrex right away (advice from a friend whose Husband has MD). It's been 3 months and in my opinion, it has helped a ton. I've only had 3 episodes, all caused by food. I can't say for sure it's what's helping, but I'll take it!!!
