No one knows for sure what causes MM. Not only do we not know the deep cause, but we don't know for sure what exact ear changes occur that trigger an attack. Can't they insert a nano camera in the inner ear to monitor what's going on? Or maybe coat the inner ear in a sensor-filled goo that would transmit every nuance to a computer?
