I was sitting here rubbing and petting my dog and I found a tick!
Everyone else is sleeping. We have this little tick remover tool and I got it all off. I then used alcohol to clean the spot and then put Vaseline on it in case there was anything left. I checked really good though, I think I got it all. It came off right away and wasn't lodged into her skin.
This after having giving her a topical treatment just last week that's supposed to last 30 days.
This has never happened before, I'm freaked out!
Looked it up and it was either a deer tick or a brown dog tick. We do walk her in the woods. I'll have to be much more careful now.

  4. I've heard that if you dump peroxide on the tick it will back out. Ever heard that?

That sounds kinky and like a good time I must say.

I am always checking my dogs and kids for ticks because they spend a lot of time in woods. Maybe call the vet and ask what they recommend.

That is a beautiful dog you got!

Fair, I never heard that but I did use alcohol to disinfect the area.

Karen, yes I about the Vaseline and I applied that after the alcohol.

BD, I usually check my dog too but with her coat it's easy to miss something.mthanx, I really think she's the most unusual and beautiful dog I've ever seen.

The tick was still alive and I could see its head. It lifted right off. It still scared the crap out of me!
    She's my baby!
I'm going out today and getting a higher weight topical for her. Maybe having just applied the topical is what stopped it from being imbedded. We have a lot of deer in our area and deer ticks can spread Lyme disease. I will be extra vigilante now!

I called the vet and he said it seems like I took the proper precautions. I examined her again today and the spot doesn't show any sort of redness or abrasion. He said if I want to do blood tests on her to check for Lyme Disease I should wait a few weeks. I'm not going to panic and do that, but I will be thoroughly checking her after walks.
