I have been told it's necessary/time to move forward with CI on my bad/left ear. All testing complete - pending insurance approval, scheduled for next month. That said - for those here that have had a CI, did it work for you? How long was your hearing impacted before you got the CI? I am being told by some (not my audi..not sure she would say it anyway) that because my hearing has been in the profound loss area for such a long time that CI may not be successful for me? Up until the past year or so, while loss was -90 ish flat, with my Oticon More 1 and custom ear mold I did o'k. It's only the Dec annual hearing test that my word recognition was at zero. In the car if I plug my right ear I can hear the announcer talking - but perhaps that is still my right ear making me think it's coming from the left? Either way...just wanted to hear from those that have lost their hearing due to Meniere's - did it work for you?
I lost half my hearing (r-ear) 4 years ago, lost the rest 3 years ago. 2 years ago vertigo started. I figured I could live with loss in one ear. Last year left ear started acting up. Worried me a lot. My ENT had not mentioned that there is a time limit to get a CI. But she had mentioned CI as a option. I decided to look into it. Saw an Audiologist. They didn't indicate there was a window of opportunity for a CI. Ended up getting a CI in R ear Oct 2025. Best decision ever! I'm very happy with results. I've only had a mapping session, but feels like I have complete hearing back. Nothing beats having stereo sound back. No more: "can you repeat that", or "Speak up", or jus not understanding what's being said. My decision was made with ..... "what do I have to lose"? What's the downside? I have no hearing before and if it didn't work I'd still have no hearing. Surgery was very easy. Go for it....
