I went to the Neurologist on a referral from my psychiatrist.
The Neurologist referred me to a Neuropsychiatrist who did a 5 hour cognition test. I have to say that I know people who would have done much worse than I did but that's neither here nor there.
I bombed a few of the tests. I was borderline on some of the tests. I didn't Ave any of them.
    The end result?
I have mild to moderate cognition impairment. (Well that's why I went in the first place.
    The MRI showed nothing unusual.

The Dr. cannot attribute it to dementia or Alzheimer's. I'd have to test in another year to compare results.

When I asked if my Menieres could be causing these issues my Dr. said, " no. Menieres does not cause cognitive issues...what?
I did have my research with me and attempted to show her but she was dismissive. That got me annoyed.
I will now bring the results to my psychiatrist because there is a medication I can try but the psychiatrist has to prescribe it.
I'm also sending a copy to my Oto to see what her input is.

The only thing I got out of the whole experience? Don't bother.

Vinpocetine markedly reduces or eliminates the "brain fog" of Meniere's.

Info in my regimen posting, here:

    Do some websearching on vinpocetine.

Did medications get discussed? I ask because I seem to remember some research on benzos and their effect on cognition over time and especially in older adults.

There's a thought. I'll ask my psychiatrist today.
I take Klonipin. Lowest dose. As needed twice a day. Some days I take 1. Some days I take 2.
I think it's safe to say that many of us have been prescribed some sort of benzo over the years.

You make a very good point, Gustav. My doctor told me that while addiction was a concern with chronic use of benzo, so was mixing them with alcohol . He was adamant that longtime use would mess with brain function.

Well folks I saw the psychiatrist today who did do some research and now knows that Menieres does have an effect on cognition.
The medication suggested was Aracept. I have to go to the Nuerologist though to see if she thinks I would benefit from the drug.
I looked up the side effects and of course dizziness was on there. That's not to say I would have that side effect as we all react differently to all drugs.

I am dearly sick of going to these Drs.

Yes, that link is really scary. Many doctors are now convinced that there is a direct link between benzo use and alzheimers.

My herpes blood panel came back positive.

At least now my insurance will have to pay for my Valcyclovir.
Maybe I shouldn't be happy about this diagnosis but it validates the herpes theory for me.

Glad you can get the valcyclovir.

I am dying to know exactly what the test said. This is still a mystery to me, what it identifies.

I have Mild to Moderate Cognition Impairment

(BTW that's why the psychiatrist sent me for the test. Just saying.

My diagnosis is Mild to Moderate Cognition Impairment. Ironic that.

Since she is a Neurologist she cannot comment about the Menieres causing it or the onset of dementia or Alzheimer's.

However she did say, "it will be very interesting to see if you start to experience dramatic improvement it "should" alleviate it for Menieres as well.

    Another interesting medication to monitor.

BTW, I did test positive for Herpes with the Herpes Bloodwork panel.

No useful comments. I have no experience with benzos.

Vinpocetine increases flow of blood through the brain (without diverting it from other organs). That can facilitate cognition.

But, beyond that, I have no information.
