Moderators, if I am breaking any rules here or this subject is not appropriate, please remove the post if need be.

I Have searched the database and back through the threads and it seems the latest post on doctors and clinics was back in May of 2017. Patients, treatments, and Doctors have come and gone since then and I was hoping some of you would be willing to share some of your experiences with the rest of us. I notice we have members from all over the country and a few international and thought a renewal of good experiences would be helpful to some of us.
I live in the very Rural South(central Louisiana), so finding a good doctor is difficult not to mention a competent ENT or greater. It took me three years to get the diagnosis and several ENT's, as much as I hated the news, I was glad to have an answer though. My ENT told me Meniere's was way above his expertise and referred me to Shea Ear in Memphis which was a mere 400 miles...one way.
I was happy to go there if it meant a few more answers and some treatment. I had an exam on a Monday, By Dr. Emmett and Tuesday began the Steroid (dextramethasone?) injections through the ear drum into the inner ear while being fed more steroids through an IV. I did this three days in a row and after a few weeks and lots more steroids and lasix I began regaining some hearing and the Tinnitus was easing up some along with better everyday balance.
I am in the midst of another attack and I have made an appointment to return to Shea in Memphis, but I am also thinking of trying a new clinic. There is a clinic in Austin, Contact Austin Ear Clinic in Austin, Texas Austin ear clinic that I have heard about. I heard they were a little more aggressive and more about looking for the cause than most so they definitely interest me. Most any clinic within 5-600 miles interest me, I am as desperate as the rest of you.

Has anyone had any experience with Austin Ear Clinic?

The two best doctors I have seen for my menieres was

Dr.Douglass Mattox at Emory University in Atlanta

    And

    Dr. Rauch at MEEI Harvard/Boston

They told me not necessarily what I wanted to hear but what I needed to hear to put an end to the suffering mm was causing me. Good Luck

My neurotologist is Dr. Hahn at the Dallas ear institute. He is excellent. Good luck and I hope you find some relief.

Dr Jenifer Derebery at House Ear Clinic in LA. She is an allergist as well as an ent and is affiliated with the best in the world. I like her because she is a big picture person. She uses more than one approach.she treated me with antivirals and allergy shots and i now have normal hearing and have not progressed to vertigo etc which was on the horizon when i went to her. I traveled from Pittsburgh to see her. It was worth it.

I keep hearing good things about Mayo, but they are 700 miles from me and that is the closest one. I have no problem giving them a try, just looking for some first hand experience from someone.

I was told Mayo Rochester takes Meniere's patients only from Minnesota and states adjacent. Perhaps the Florida clinic has different policies. I had been getting care for years at a university hospital and switched when considering destructive treatments and not getting full answers about the options. It is a comfort to have a highly experienced surgeon when a hole will be drilled into the skull.

If anyone is in the SoCal area and suspect you are suffering from migraine and not Meniere. Try to make an appointment with Gail Ishiyama. She is a neurologist at UCLA. She only sees patients from referral from another doctor and requires all your medical records sent to her before you can make an appointment.

She is the first doctor who didn’t think I have CH and started exploring the possibility of migraine. Before seeing her, I’ve seen a dozen of ENTs including being a patient at the House Ear Clinic in LA for several years. I’ve tried pretty much everything that’s noninvasive, allergy spray, allergy pills, diruetics, serc, different kinds of antiviral, low sodium, Chinese herbal medicine, upper cervical chiropractor, steroids, no caffeine, no alcohol, etc and nothing was working.

I’ve been almost symptoms free (had 2 mini episodes last year) for 1.5 to 2 years now

For future Canadian’s who might stumble across this: in Calgary right now Dr. Euna Hwang at the the Neurovestibular Clinic (South Health Campus) does the vestibular testing, medical treatment and gentamicin injections. They may get a new otoneurologist eventually, now that Beth Lange is gone.

Dr. Phillip Park does the surgical options.

Get your referrals in ASAP, because you’re looking at a 5-8 month wait.

If you just can’t wait and have some $, you can go to House Ear Clinic in LA. Or check out the Mayo Clinic - part of their website is devoted to Canadians seeking care.

Junes recommendation is the gold standard in anyone’s book. Bulldogs gives a good choice of Dr Mattox at Emory in Atlanta ....he partners with Dr Tusa who manages the dizzy balance end of things. A good team. My fav non surgical practice is Dr Tim Hain. He is the top MM doc IMO. If you need to get cut on he will refer to a top surgeon. For CI take a look at Vanderbilt and see what they are doing now. Amazing. Intra operative imaging that guides the surgeon into the correct scala opening. Note my photo. That is a screen shot of me while still open on the table as a team evaluated the placement of my electrode array. Yeah, dont head to the closest ENT. You will be frustrated.

Thanks everyone, now we are getting somewhere. Having the opportunity to hear from some of you that have had GOOD experiences with different doctors and hospitals is certainly enlightening. Most all of us have spent countless hours and untold amounts of money to experiment with different EMT's who left most only frustrated and a little more hopeless.

I think we have all resigned ourselves to the fact that most of us are going to have to travel, sometimes extensively, to find that Doctor who listens, understands, and is willing to work with you. I am glad to see that the list is growing and that everyone is sharing good experiences. Keep it up please, some of us may find a doctor who has been right under our nose that we were not even aware of.

Wow that’s great news! Please share how you became symptom free. My symptoms seem similar to yours and my docs aren’t convinced of one diagnosis or an another... thank you for your time :)
