Hi there. I have been diagnosed by ENT specialist with cochlear hydrops. Ie MD without vertigo. I have bouts of temporary low frequency hearing loss accompanied by ear flare ups ( a kind of sound reactive semi-physical tinnitus in the affected ear.) These flare ups last for anything from one day to eight days and I might get one week or so before the next one starts. I have never really had vertigo (have had a few short "almost" bouts). I did have unsteadiness for a few months but this seems to have passed. However, I have never had aural fullness. I find these flare ups very distracting. I also get weird feelings in my head. I permanently have high pitch tinnitus in both ears, a whirring deep in my head and a sort of ringing in my left ear. I have had this for 8 months now. I take Serc 16 x 3 per day. I am told serc doesn't improve aural fullness so it cant be the Serc keeping it at bay.. Can anyone else relate to this ?? PS By the way, there is a very useful on-line hearing test where you can monitor your hearing and print your own audiograms - its called hearingtest.online. You can independently check each ear. I use the alternate low and high tones to get a super accurate audiogram. You will need some decent headphones.
Ponx, have you had an mri and all the other testing to rule out other explanations? I did have aural fullness but my CH was atypical in other ways. Mine was not episodic, it was always there, but it did vary in intensity from minute to minute somewhat. Distortion was my biggest problem. I think these things vary depending in part on exactly where in that tiny little ear structure the problem is centered. I am using past tense because most of my symptoms have been gone for years now thanks to antivirals and also allergy treatment. Like you, i had some almost cases of vertigo and balance problems. If you have not already had an mri and orher testing to rule out other causes, i urger you to do so. There can be other causes that bring about the same or similar symptoms. I had an acoustic neuroma in the other ear and these kinds of things are not out of the question either and you would not want to miss them as they can get serious. Good luck, give antivirals a try.
Didn't read any of this. But yes, I have fullness. Almost everyone with MD does. Good for you if you don't.
