Hi, My doctor recently prescribed Chlorthalidone for me. BP has been elevated last few months, and so his thinking is that we might reap the benefits on both sides of the coin - reducing BP and also hopefully helping with the meniere's symptoms. I only ever tried a diuretic once - a few years ago (triamterine-HCTZ) - only took 2 pills and stopped because I was not feeling well. I suppose I didn't give it a fair chance. Any advice? I am already taking lemon bioflavonoids and just started vinpocetine - and also have lysine but did not start that yet. Thanks...
Chlorthalidone may or may not help. If you have a history of gout, stay away from it. Diuretic drugs can trigger massive gout attacks. MM may be caused by multiple systemic (stealth) infections. There is plenty of scientific evidence behind viral and fungal causes. Anti-viral medications help some folks. They didn't me, but lots of folks here have been helped. Anti-fungal medications helped me (systemic yeast infection). Another possible source is long-term dental infections. I discovered that a lot of my general inflammation and illness went away after I had my stealth dental infections fixed. These were due to botched root canals and were active infections for as many as 40 years. Please check this link and see if any of this applies to you. http://menieres.org/talk/index.php?topic=2830.0 Good luck!
So far I don't feel any difference being on the chlorthalidone. Still have just as many lightheadedness / dizziness episodes. A bit disappointing that it doesn't seem to be working.
The go-to treatments here these days seem to be anti-viral and anti-fungal meds. How are your teeth? Ever had any root canals?
No teeth trouble. Don't recall ever having had a root canal. I'll be seeing an Otologist in a few days. Hoping to discuss some of the various treatment options with him.
