Well, I just had my first drop attack an hour ago. Really weird. Fortunately, I was sitting in my chair at work. Nothing damaged except my keyboard. I'm afraid to drive home now.
The past few years the vertigo has gotten better, not worse. Now this!
My Dr. basically fired me last time I was there as my symptoms were getting tolerable.

    Questions.
How many drop attacks before I consider surgery?
How many of you have had one or two and never happened again?

I see how these could be dangerous. It seemed like the vertigo was in the other direction, summersaults instead of spinning. It was instant and unexpected.

    Thanks
    Jim

Sorry to hear it, Jim. Are you arranging to get back into your doctor? Unfortunately my sudden onset drop-style attacks led me to gentamicin injections- a lifesaver for me. Labyrinthectomy may still be in my future. Anyway, I’d definitely suggest you see someone to make a plan.

I wasn't planning on going back to the Dr. unless it happens again.

I just keep thinking of all the things I normally do, that I probably should not now.
Cleaning the chimney was on the to do list. I may scratch that and pay someone.

    Thanks

It was several years ago that I had a drop attack. One moment I was upright and the next moment I was down with no understanding of what had happened. Perhaps three seconds were all it took. I was disconcerted because I knew of people who had suffered bruises and broken bones. But that was the only one.
Tumarkin's Otolithic Crisis (drop attack) is serious. I am thankful for having the single episode. Here is a video:

I have only had one, thus far. I was terrified. It happened while I was driving a company vehicle. Thank goodness I did not hurt anyone or anything.

Thanks for the replies. So there is hope there won't be any more of these.

Have MD in both ears for over 30 years. Have not had a vertigo attack in which the room is spinning for quite a while but now I have been getting drop attacks. The first one was a few years ago at 3 AM I fell flat on my face in my bedroom. Went to several doctors and a vertigo specialist advised me that it was a progression of my MD. Than last July I fell (drop attack) while walking my dogs and got a compression fracture in my back. I have had quite a few but luckily I have been sitting and once while in bed and once in the car while my wife was driving. As much as I hated the spinning and vertigo and throwing up all these years, I would much rather have that, than these drop attacks. I do not drive any more as I am sure I would crash if I had a drop attack. I am 78 years old and maybe won't live much longer with this horrible disease. Maybe you will get lucky and have only one drop attack in your lifetime. Hope and pray for you that is the case.

    Hi Jim,

I apologize for commenting so late. There is definitely hope! Plenty of people on this forum are living a normal life. I made a post about my
Labryinthectomy recovery on the forum. Check it out. It certainly changed my life and I live a life free of vertigo!

Thanks, I have read all the labryinthectomy threads.
I'm not going there yet, but one more drop attack and I will call the Dr.
I was hoping to never see him again.
